Eye boogers?

Yesterday P (3.5 weeks) kept getting little crusty eye boogers in her left eye. Today she woke up with it almost crusted shut. Anyone experienced this with a NB? Do I need to call the pedi? Everything else seems normal.

What color are her boogies?

A had a few days of crusties that we cleaned up with a warm cloth. Seemed to come and go with no other symptoms.

If there is no swelling or redness going along with it, my guess is a clogged tear duct also.

If they start looking green at all, it's worth a trip to the pedi as that could mean an infection.

I agree with the clogged tear duct.  DS had this as well.  The pedi recommended a cotton ball soaked in warm water and really massaging the stuff out right in the corner of her eye.

If it turns green you can take her in and maybe get eye drops, I don't know with her being so little still. H gets the green goop and crusty overnight stuff when he has bad colds and we get eye drops that clear it up almost instantly.

J had this for the first few months. I put breastmilk in her eyes and gently cleared away the booger.

Well I called the nurses line just to see if she should come in. And they said yes, come in. And I was like, oh really? I sort of expected them to say nbd, clean it with a warm wash cloth. But apparently advice for all nbs under 4 weeks is "come in."
Waiting in the office now.

I hope they can tell you what it is, but it sounds like a clogged duct! Try the cotton ball to get it out then squish breast milk in babies eye, its better than drops, and will help unclog it! Good luck

And as per usual, the lovely ladies of SAIF were right! Blocked tear duct. Totally worth $30 copay. /:)
Next time I'll just listen to y'all.

I have heard the breast milk helps clear the clogged ducts!

DD had some seriously clogged tear ducts (neither of the boys did.) Like PPs recommended I massaged the corner of her eyes periodically. Thankfully she eventually grew out of it.
