All this talk of canning has me thinking... Does anyone infuse their own spirits? I've made my own vanilla, which is essentially vanilla flavored vodka or bourbon but I was wanting to expand into other flavors and give them away for.Christmas

Anybody try any combinations they would suggest?

Something I've had in the back of my mind to try, but there was no point in doing it as long as we are still nursing.

Years ago I went to a Russian culture festival in SF, and they had almost 2 dozen flavors of infused vodka to try. Lots of fruits. Do you have access to good berries? Those would make great holiday gifts. Cinnamon, too.

OMG we've done tons of these! Cranberry, pineapple, and horseradish were the best. Pear did not work well, too soft, got all mushy and nasty. I wanted to try some with herbs, strawberry basil, blueberry thyme, lemon mint, but I've been pregnant or nursing for the last 3 years.

@freezorburn I am surrounded by farmland and there is a farmers market on Fridays in my area so I do have access to good fruit  

@Tj1979- yum Strawberry Basil sounds fantastic! 

What kind of containers do you guys use to infuse? I was thinking I could use some of the larger canning jars and then after straining out the solids putting the liquid back in the jar and giving it as a gift.

I would probably use a canning jar for making the infusion, but look for bottles to package the final product.

Ooh, a friend of mine did a chipotle chocolate vodka using dried chipotle peppers and cacao nibs. Mmmm.
