Splash pad / sprayground questions

I have 2 questions....

Do you generally end up going in with your kid(s)? Do you treat it like a regular playground and keep your distance? I'll wear something I can get wet (shorts and a t-shirt and flip flops) but I'd really like to not go in if I don't have to. Am I being crazy? Should I plan on getting soaked?

And, we CD a lot. DD's CDs can be used as a swim diaper if the inserts are taken out. We have to drive to the splash pad so if she pees, it will get all over her and the car seat. Do you wait to change them into their clothes when you get there? If not, WDYD?

TIA.

Re: Splash pad / sprayground questions

  • Don't be the mom walking around the splash pad in a bikini. ;) Your plan to get wet, but not soaked is appropriate ime.

I would change her there. We used to (before dd was potty trained) change and sunscreen in the car.

  • Lol no one wants to see me in a bikini. That's what I was thinking, thanks!

  • I don't go in with her, though I sometimes have to get a bit wet to encourage her to get in there. I just wear my regular clothes though, and generally hang back.
DD is 26-ish months and I usually put her in a swim diaper at home and risk the 10 minute drive there and back. She's almost potty trained, though, so I'd be pretty surprised if she had an accident. Our splash pad doesn't have anywhere to get changed, but if they did I'd get her changed there.

  • I always play with my kids and get soaked. It's really fun--why wouldn't you? With that being said I'm the only mom who ever goes in while all the other moms sit on benches. Lol. I'm not the mom who wears a bikini though--I wear a tankini top with short shorts.

  • I do sunscreen at home, so it's not like greasing a squirming pig who's trying to get away, then either leave on regular diaper (it doesn't get soaked since he's not sitting in water) or change into swim diaper when we get there. I wear swimsuit with cover up or tank and shorts. On the last day that the splash pad was open last year, we were the only ones there so I was glad to have my suit on and go in!
  • I put sunscreen on at home, but change diapered kids into their swim diaper at the splash pad. I usually wear shorts and a tank top at the splash pad.  I will join in to get my kids to start playing if needed or if there are no other kids there.  I just avoid the really wet areas (the buckets and out the line of fire of the water guns) and have never had a problem participating but not getting soaked.

Ill do sunscreen there depends on what time we go tho. And he wears his suit there. Last summer he did pee in his cataract on the way. That sucked lol.

I wear like shorts and a tank top. Normally what I am just wearing that day.if I get wet its fine but I dont play in the splash pad with his normally. If I have somewhere to go after ill bring a Change of clothes for me.

The splash pad is only a five minute drive, so I get him ready at home.

Last summer, I would wear something that could get wet. I wouldn't go in with him. This summer, I'll probably wear my suit (tankani) as I don't have maternity clothes I could wear there.

  • I wear workout clothing because it dries quickly. DD only has 2 piece suits (rash guard and bottoms) so the top gets put on at home, I put the sunscreen on and we head over. I put the bottoms/swim diaper on her when we arrive.

I really only 'go in' to grab her when it's time to leave. DD is 21 months.

  • It depends on the size of the splash pad/park. We have a small one that DD plays in independently and we have a ginormous one that I stick with her because I can't see her constantly if I don't. I get DD ready for the splash pad/park at home, but she's 4 and doesn't have accidents anymore.

See, this does not sound like fun to me at all. Lol also thanks for specifying the length of your shorts. Wouldn't want anyone to think you were in bermudas ;)

I meant to specify those ones with the water resistant material. Words is hard yo. :P
See, sitting in a bench on a hot day in a concrete park is not pleasant. Sticking a foot in doesn't cool me off. Having wet hair/body does.

  • Never went in. This summer I don't even go into the pool.
  • As for cd, do you have any cotton inserts or prefolds and covers? I use them for the ride and the just pull the insert out. That's why I don't use pockets for swim diapers.

All our diapers are pockets. I just changed her in the car, it was actually easier than I thought it would be.

Thanks for the responses everyone. She did well playing by herself but she had an accident and I ended up getting soaked when I had to run in to get her. Oh, well.

  • I wear a dark tank top and shorts. I'm tempted to get soaked but I don't. My LO loves to hug my legs while he's soaked so I do end up with a wet crotch and thighs. I usually follow him around only bc there are so many kids and the older kids can be a bit rough. Most of the parents are just hanging around chatting, not actually in the water on purpose. Also I put a regular diaper on LO. I use to use swim diapers but I don't think it's worth the effort for the splash park only the pool. I put LO on a fresh diaper and swim gear for the drive there and change him immediately after. I know his poop schedule so haven't had any problems with accidents or exploding diapers.
