Success after IF

Advice Needed (child mentioned)

Hi All.  I normally don't post much on here but I'm in need of some advice.  We had our amazing son last August after about 3 years of trying and then finally moving on to IVF.  We were sooo lucky to have IVF to work on try #1.  We know we want more then 1 child and out DS has been such an easy baby (might change now that he is on the move) so since our doctors said our best chances to conceive without IVF was to try right away.  We tried a few months on our own and then did 2 rounds of IUI and no such luck.  So we have decided to just take a break from the meds and spending all the money on things that haven't worked in the past and just try on our own, save some money and then go back to IVF when we can.  During IUI I was having 31 day cycles so that is what I based my ovulating time on and did a week of ovulation tests and all came back negative.  That was not a big shock as we have had this issue in the past and have usually needed the trigger shot.  Well I had all of the usual symptoms of ovulation.  A more noticeable amount of discharge and also some cramping.  We went ahead with TI on our own anyway but didn't get our hopes up.  So day 27 rolls around and I had some pink spotting one evening and then it quit.  I figured my period was on it's way but then nothing came.  Day 31 came so I did a home test and negative. Ok period will be coming anytime.....so you would think.  Normally after I ovulate I do the progesterone and estradiol since my levels are so low but since I got negative ovulation tests I never started it.  I contacted my nurse and she had me do a blood test just to make sure because she was afraid that IF I was prego then we would need to get me going on those meds ASAP.  Well the blood test came back negative as well.  So here I am on day 39 with still no period, I haven't done a test since the blood test but anyone else have this strange of a cycle when you are normally pretty darn regular?  I am having some discharge but it is all white so not even like spotting like I'm just having a weird period.  I'm believing the test results and that I'm not prego but could my period just go ahead and come then so we can move on???  Thanks!

  • I only bf'd for about 6 weeks, I just wasn't producing enough at all.  The first month after I quit bf I ovulated on my own and we were shocked.  My husband farms so I think we are going to see how the crops do this year and then see when we can go back to IVF after that.  If only it wasn't so expensive we would go back right away.  Just seems odd that it randomly got screwed up this month when I have always been so regular.  Even after having my son I figured it would take awhile to get going on a regular schedule again but not the case.  31 days has been then longest cycle that I've ever had until now!

Is this your first cycle after your treatment cycles? Your hormones might still be off from that.

  • TJ1979 yes this is the first one after our last failed IUI so I guess there could be still some hormones a little screwy in there.  I guess maybe this is "normal" to have these longer cycles after the treatments.  When we were trying for our son we kept doing medicated cycle after medicated cycle, then did the IVF.  We had to take a month off once or twice to let my follicles rest a little bit before starting the meds again but my cycles were pretty consistent with being between 28-31 days.  Who knows, infertility is so frustrating with not having many definite answers like this!
  • chiwifey yes very frustrating is right!  I always tell my nurse how much I hate my body for not doing what it is meant to do!  I try to be really healthy and workout but the body has a mind of it's own apparently.  As much as I hate when I see my period if I'm not pregnant then I'd rather it just come and get moving on.
    Thanks
