Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Hyland's teething tablets?

Have any of you used these? LO is almost four months but I think he's beginning to teeth. He's been STTN for the past few weeks and all of a sudden he's been waking up multiple times each night crying hysterically. Also, when he's awake he's been shoving his hands in his mouth and drooling like crazy. Assuming he is teething, I was trying to figure out what I could do to help soothe him, especially at night. I heard the teething tablets work, but if you recommend anything else please let me know!

Re: Hyland's teething tablets?

  • We used them for ds1. Combined with some ibuprofen, they made him a lot more comfortable.

Might be 4 month wakefulness instead of teething. We went through the exact same thing. DS started drooling like crazy and gnawing on everything but I think it was coincidental. So far I don't see any teeth close to the surface but these symptoms can appear weeks or months before first tooth. How is he during the day? How does he react to counter pressure on the gums?
He's been slightly fussier than usual during the day. For the most part, he seems pretty content but he'll have minor tantrums and he seems to want to be held more than usual. Also, his naps aren't as long. He'll wake up and I have to either soothe him back to sleep or just pick him up because he refuses to go back down.

Yeah I'd venture to say he's coming out of the baby fog and realizing there's a whole world around him. When he wakes crying at night, is he fully awake or sleep screaming & slow to respond to your soothing? We mistook sleep cycle transitions and the crying out it can cause as awakenings. That being said, sometimes he was fully awake and ready to play or eat. We had one really rough week of not sleeping or napping well. It did get a little better but we found it more challenging to get him to sleep - we had been holding him to sleep and then putting him down but now he woke up and got mad at us. It also meant he didn't know how to fall back asleep during those night awakenings. This was our motivation to help him learn how to fall asleep on his own and he took to it very quickly right at 5 months - started a few days ago. I don't think we would have been successful much earlier though.
When he wakes up at night, sometimes he's sleep screaming and he'll slowly go back to sleep if I just stick a paci in his mouth or pat him on the butt (he's a tummy sleeper). Other times, he's wide awake and I have to nurse him back to sleep. Last night, we had a little bit of everything. He woke up around 11pm, I left him alone and he fell back asleep after about 5 mins. He woke up again around 12:30am, and I had to go in there and give him the paci and he fell back asleep. He woke up again around 3:45am, and I nursed him back to sleep. Prior to this current phase, he would go down at like 9-9:30pm and wake up at 5:30am for a feeding, and back down for a nap till 7am. So this is definitely throwing me off.

We're going through the same thing here! I keep checking his mouth to see if I can spot anything but I think we've started the 4 month wakeful early as well :(

I use them for my dd.
  • I have used them and they seem to help a little. No miracle worker for us though. Some people claim that they are for their children!
