Swaddle question

If you swaddled your baby for bed time when did you switch to a sleepsack or something else? DD is 2 months old and I was thinking of doing the sleepsack but wasnt sure if I should wait until 3 months. She currently sleeps 9 hours at night and I dont want to mess with that at all. :)

Nice - don't mess with that!!  ;)  We broke DS out of the swaddle gradually when he learned to roll.

ETA: We never used a sleepsack with DS.

We started, and still do use, sleep sacks. I LOVE the Aden and Anais muslin ones for summer and the fleece Halo ones for winter.

I think we switched around 3 months.

I want to say it was closer to 4 months for us, but can't remember exactly. H always broke at least one arm out of the swaddle and we started swaddling just his legs when he started rolling. We got a sleep sack around 4 months but he would eventually kick out of it during the night so we ditched it altogether.

Basically we took his lead because we didn't want to mess with sleep either.

  • We loved the swaddle too and at about 3 months, we just moved the swaddle down so his arms were out. We used the SwaddleMe wraps. Once he started rolling onto his tummy to sleep, I wanted to be sure he had his arms free to move around. We never used a sleep sack.

  • Like PPs, we broke the swaddle when they started to roll back to front- about 4 mos. We did one arm at a time and then put them in sleep sacks. If it got bad, we'd just take a break for a few days and try again.

We swaddled forever, and like mdiblasi let her arms out at one point. I honestly think she was swaddled till 6m, when we switched to Merlin's magic sleep suit. Which she used till 16m. She was a terrible, terrible sleeper and we needed all the help we could get.

  • We swaddled DS literally forever like 8 months probably. He's almost 3 and I'm surprised he's not still swaddled ;) I wouldn't worry about transitioning just yet if it seems to be working. You can always try arms free or 1 arm free during nap to see if it's even an option. If it is, then you could try the sleep sack. During our transition we just wrapped DS up in his favorite blankie (like an egg roll) he could get out but it helped getting him to sleep initially.
    image DS 7.6.2011 TTC#2
  • With DS1 we switched to a sleep sack when he started to roll, about 5 months. With DS2 he is 5 weeks and is already in a sleep sack. He doesn't seem to sleep any better swaddled and I don't like swaddling.

After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!

  • We use the halo swaddle sleepsack and love it. As soon as we swaddle him in it, he is out like a light! They come in NB and small so not sure what we will do when he outgrows them. On their website it says to stop using them when they can roll over or break free so I guessing that is the same advice they would give fir any swaddle??

  • DD was swaddled until 4 months, arms out until 5 months and then sleep sack at 5 months on. We only stopped swaddling when she was rolling regularly, that was the biggest reason for our transition.

I loved the miracle blanket, she broke out of everything else, then we swaddled arms out with the halo swaddle and then invested in a baby deedee sleep sack at 6 months- awesome for new england winters! For summer we use a cotton halo sleep sack.

  • We swaddled until 5-6 months. She slept in the Rock and Play so I wasn't worried about her rolling over. We started to loosely swaddle when she transitioned to her crib. She would just push out of it anyways.
