Welcome to "Hanging On To a Dream!" This group is designed as a check-in for those that are not currently part of a monthly IVF cycling group but would like some camaraderie while waiting to cycle for any reason. Please join us if your monthly cycling group has not started and tell us how you are doing. Please also let us know if you are (1) waiting for 1st cycle; (2) in between cycles; or (3) on hold for whatever reason. Please also tell us what your next plans are (IVF with ICSI, FET, WTF appt. etc.) and what month you hope to cycle.

QOTW: What is your favorite movie(s) to watch when you need to be cheered up?

Me: 32  DH: 33  Married: March 2004

July 2006: started TTC
2008: HSG (normal), couple rounds of clomid through gyno
2008 - 2010: dragging my feet out of fear and procrastination
October 2010: first consultation with RE, dx PCOS and fibroids (DH slightly low count/motility)
Oct. 2010 - Dec. 2012:  In DENIAL! avoided the issue because I was scared of surgery
January 2013: returned to RE, fibroids grew significantly
February 2013: second HSG, fibroids pushed on tubes which blocked them somewhat
March 2013: MRI to determine what type of surgery may be necessary

July 29, 2013: fibroids (5) removed via robotic laparascopy
August 2013 - Nov 2013 : benched due to recent surgery

IUI #1, Dec. 24, 2013, BFN
IUI #2, Jan. 25, 2014, BFN
IUI #3, Feb. 25, 2014  BFN
IUI #4 canceled due to lack of response to letrozole
IUI #4.1 April 28, 2014, BFN

May 16, 2014: wtf consult, start prepping for IVF in June and add injects for one last IUI in the meantime
IUI #5 started letrozole and bravelle but canceled after HSG led to new diagnosis

May 21, 2014: third HSG, tubes blocked, one at the beginning, one hydrosalpinx??
June 11, 2014: consult, approved to move on to IVF because the hydro is not completely blocked therefore allowing fluid to move through slowly rather than backwards
IVF #1 August 8, 2014 - 3dt of 2 embryos, BFN
September 17, 2014 - 4th HSG, the right tube is very patent (open!!) dye went straight through this time. Weird!
October 2, 2014 - started metformin treatment
November 14, 2014 - blood work, brought A1C down from 5.8 to 5.5

November 26, 2014 - RE finally back from vaca and reviewed my chart, no more IVFs for rest of calendar year
December 1, 2014 - Right after Thanksgiving, I called a new clinic and got in right away! Plan for IVF
December 17, 2014 - ER! 29 retrieved (!!), 16 mature, all 16 fertilized (ICSI)

IVF #2 December 20, 2014 - 3dt of 3 embryos, BFN

We are done with treatment unsuccessfully. :(

Re: **6/16/14 Hanging on to a Dream check in** come on in if waiting to cycle for any reason

  • Looks like I'm rejoining you ladies over here!

We just had our first IVF/ICSI which ended in a CP, with nothing to freeze. We're looking at trying again in 6 months, so either December or January? (We don't know if they close over Christmas, so that will determine which month we cycle in.) We have our WTF next week, which will determine what further testing we'll be doing and how we'll be moving forward.

  • Hi ladies. I am (Lord willing) moving onto the Summer Sparklers.

But now I'm confused. I do have a call out to my doctor's office, but was wondering if anyone else has used Depot Lupron for IVF prep instead of BC. I am not allowed to use BC anymore so we used the Depot Lupron instead. A week ago I got my injection at the doctor's office. The next day I had my post-op appointment and talked to my doctor about the upcoming cycle in July. I could have sworn he said I would NOT get my period on the depot lupron shot. Well, yesterday I started my period... I hope this isn't going to mess things up. Hoping the nurse calls me back soon!!!

  • @tptbabe, I'm so sorry to see you back here. Still sending lots of hugs!

@Twinkie0612, I'm so excited for your donated eggs! And, like you, I'm counting down until Dr. KK.

@Jetta83306, I'm sorry that I don't know anything about Lupron Depot. I can't help but to think of Home Depot anytime I see that. I'm a dork!

There's really not much to update in my world. I am expecting my period this week. I'd love for it not to come seeing how we did IUI #5, but I'm keeping realistic expectations. I just booked my flight for my appointment with Dr. KK, so that just got real. We will start looking at DEgg profiles in July, and will have a serious discussion about doing more IUIs in the future. I don't want to do anymore, but could be swayed by DH.

QOTW: I don't really have any cheer up movies on hand... but whenever I'm watching TV and sulking, I usually find reruns of SITC and Friends. Love those shows!

    Hello lovelies.
@jencity9 thank you for the checkin and congrats on moving to the summer sparklers!

    AFM:
I'm sorta benched by my body right now. My D&C was about 7 weeks ago but my betas are still positive :-/
So until my Beta is zero and my AF shows her face I can't start Lupron :-q

Once my AF shows up though my RE is only going to have me do 1-2 months of Lupron before my FET so \:D/ hopefully that means a sept transfer!!! Whoop whoop!!

    Big hugs @tptbabe‌
    Congrats to everyone moving forward.

  • I officially got word that my right tube, which I didn't think looked good on the HSG is actually open!  So if we need to for some reason, we'll be able to convert an IVF cycle to IUI.  However, my PAP came back abnormal, so now I have to have a colposcopy next week.  I'm fairly bummed, because I think there's a real possibility that we'll have to delay our cycle until August.  Suck.

  • Hi ladies!
Not too much going on. My therapist had another RE that she works with look at my case to try and help me understand whats going on. So apparently my IVFs may have failed due to bad eggs, poor uterus, or dh's sperm- well that narrows that down.. I'm also a little ticked because I told my therapist don't bother if he didn't know about SERs and she agreed. He said it could be any of those "cell parts" like the ribosome or mitochondria...REALLY? Because the studies I had read about dysmorphic oocytes never mention any of the other cell organelles- only the smooth endoplasmic reticulum- Vent over... He did he would recommend having a lap to see if my tubes are open...
That did get me thinking.. since now I'm working backwards, my tubes were never checked because we never needed them. I asked my nurse about an HSG.. Is that common to do before an IUI? I'm not looking for any more pain- but since my diagnosis of a "congenital uterine anomaly" I guess my tubes could be f'd up too.   And if it isn't too apparent by my tone- I'm pretty sure I'm PMSing.. so hopefully AF will be here soon.

  • Hugs @poohniki‌. Yes, I'd say a HSG is a good move since you're doing IUIs. The tubes have to be open to have a chance. Though I think there's another way to assess that (SHG?) which you've probably done with your IVF cycles, right?

  • Hi all, I guess I find myself over here again. Right now we are waiting to start our first IVF cycle (last year we tried IVM), now after 3 failed IUI's we are moving on to IVF. We are waiting on insurance approval, I'm hoping they are smart enough to realize with all my large cysts left over from our last IUI there is no time before I turn 35 next month to do another IUI....they want under 35 to have 6 IUI's and 35+ just need to have 3. For once, getting a year older has an advantage now that I'm over 21. :)

We have our IVF consult and I've been on BCP's since Saturday when I had my day 3 U/S and blood work...and where they found lots of large cysts in the 45-57 range and a bunch more in the 20's and 30's. I was in shock as he kept reading off the numbers.

so here's to hoping our insurance approves us to start cycling in July and as soon as these cysts are gone.

  • I'm still here!!  Just had my annual CD3 testing completed and my TSH was a little low, so I need to follow up on that.  GRRR!!!

QOTD:  THIS IS THE END!!!  I have gushed about this stupid movie on 3T, but I don't think I have over here.  This movie is hysterical.  Do not judge me.  I could watch it every day.
I have to do follow up on my TSH also, hope it isn't any reason to delay anything...

  • I apologize that my update is a little long! I have some venting to do.

Today while on lunch at work I got a call from the RE's office to cancel my July 19 app. Apparently they've suddenly decided no consult appointments on the weekend. She wanted to reschedule it for June 26, but I told her that's too early, because my DH needs to be on his meds for 3 months before he can do his SA. Then she told me the next available appointment isn't until SEPTEMBER!!! I told her that was ridiculous and this isn't the first time I've had an appointment cancelled and moved forward by such a huge amount of time! She said she would see what she can do. The second I got of the phone I started crying in front of my co-workers (they all know about our IF) and then called my DH. As I was talking to him the clinic called back and she was able to put us in for July 25th. Both DH and I will have to lose part or a full day of work for this, but I guess we have no choice!

This really sucks because I'll be getting AF any day now (BFN this am, 14dpo) so I would have been getting my next AF right around our appointment date. We could have started the process right away. Now we'll have to wait even longer because I'll still be early in my cycle, and I assume I have to wait for the next cycle to start to begin the IVF process (since I am assuming DH's SA will still be crappy and we have to do IVF)

     UGH!!!
*** If you want to know where I (and soo many others) have gone, click here ***
  • @SweetieShellieH‌ That is crazy!!! I wonder if you could at least get BCP to start now just in case so that after your next AF you can start stims assuming you will move forward with IVF then?

  • @sweetshellieH I am glad you they could reschedule you sooner. I know how frustrating it is when you have rearranged your whole life for that appointment and then they cancel on you.

@poohniki as others have already said I would def ask about HSG, not the most pleasant of procedures but it has to be done.

Hi Girls. Congrats to all of you going on to the Summer Sparklers and good luck.
I have been MIA this week because I have been sick! Have a terrible cold and I am really annoyed it has prevented me from my workout routine. I am on the mend now and slowly getting back into being active.
Last meeting with my nutritionist she said I should schedule a follow up with my RE as she is very pleased with my progress. The earliest they could fit me in was July 11th. I will have to reschedule work but I am happy we hopefully will get the ball rolling once again.

@jencity9 I'm back!! Since you are moving to July group (yay!) I can take over next week. Thank you for doing it and for alphabetizing the list. You rock!

I have a lot to catch up on, I will go through the threads I missed before updating next Monday. So for now I will leave an update.

Tl:dr version, surgery went well, FET hopefully in Oct.

Had surgery today and it went well. No hydrosalpinx but rather a para tubal cyst on the left side wrapping around the outside of tube. Sent off for pathology, expecting benign finding. Both tubes were dilated and enlarged, so they came out (good riddance!) At least a tubal ectopic is no longer an issue and even though there was not a hydro, they were useless anyway. No regrets.

The ovaries were enlarged and the right one had some cysts. No surprise there, just confirming my PCOS.

Big surprise that was not so surprising was a pocket of "significant quantity" endo behind uterus and between it a rectum (pouch of Douglas I think?) She (OB Gyn) did not remove it, said it was too dangerous being so close to ute and bowels. I think this explains some bowel issues and the fact that the vag cam hurts like a MF when I am stimming, all that estrogen probably made the endo rage in that pocket!!

I need to speak to RE to see if I need to do Lupron Depot for a few months to calm it down before FET. I have a phone consult scheduled for the end of June. I may push for it no matter what as it can't possibly hurt to take it from what I have read.

Right now we are thinking FET in October, so 2-3 months of Lupron Depot should work fine. DH just got a new job and will need that long to get enough vacation to come to CCRM with me for the FET. Not going without him!!

Hi sweets! So happy the surgery went well. Fx the depot Lupron works it's wonders!

  • @IFinTN Thanks for the message. Hope you are feeling better. We all missed you lots!

I had some slight endo show up on my biophysical uterine profile done by Dr. KK- so I'm not sure about a lap. I'm kinda over all of this at this point. It wasn't my RE- it was the one my therapist used and works with.. I don't think she believed me when I said my condition is really rare.
I've thought about CCRM but I've met another person diagnosed with SERs through TB that cycled at CCRM and their solution was to use more estrogen and get as many eggs as possible because one or two should have no SERs. I've read a few REs make statements that you cannot have cycles where every egg has an SER- and mine did.. soo... She went onto donor eggs.. My RE has treated other patients with them- but I may request to see one of the founders if I keep getting the feeling we are treating the next thing.. I really think we need to step back and look at the whole picture since all my bloodwork is different now.. but I don't know anymore..
