Traumatized child

DD pooped in the tub the same night as the whole "tub poopers" post went up a few days ago.  Little did I know that she was completely traumatized!  She has completely FLIPPED out the last 3 nights getting in the tub.  I don't know if she's scared she's going to go again in there or what.  I went and bought $15 worth of crayola bath time stuff (markers, finger paints, foam colorful soap), and it definitely helped keep the crying to a minimum tonight... Except now I'm worried I'll have to keep buying this crap forever!  Anyone else have a child traumatized by pooping in the tub? :(

Re: Traumatized child

  • DD tries to pick it up. She's actually pooped in the tub the last two baths and both times it's hard to get her out without her grabbing it. Did you react in a startled way? I'm wondering if maybe it was your reaction, or maybe my DD is just unusual and likes poop.

  • :-( poor thing. We haven't had poop in the tub since she was a newborn so I don't have any advice.
Did you get mad or act really surprised when she did it? I've noticed that DD is VERY sensitive lately. Like...if I even seem like I'm annoyed with her she will stop what she's doing and just stand there stone faced and stare at me. :-( I'm talking not even raising my voice...which I never do! It must be a tone she detects at times that she things is bad? I don't know but when she's given me that look I've learned and I'll say "sweetie I'm sorry, are you sad/are you going to cry?" the corners of her mouth turn down immediately and she just sobs. and then I cry lol I just feel so terrible. it's happened 3 times now and I really watch things. The last time we were walking through a hotel hallway and she had the key to the room (it was a real key) and she was walking with my mom and I and I turned to my mom to say something and she says "OH NO!" and I turned around and DD was thisclose to sticking the stinking key into an outlet! I freaking panicked and said something along the lines of "ALIVIA! NO BABY!!" and it startled her. The second she looked at me I knew what was coming. I just got down on my knees and told her I was sorry for scaring her and I loved her and it was ok if she was sad and that's all it took full on sobbing on my neck :-(

All this to say maybe she's just ultra sensitive right now and felt like she was in trouble or embarased from pooping in the tub the other night.

  • I wasn't in the bathroom when it happened, but DH kind of went "oh no..." (in more of a "ugh we have to clean this up" way than "AHHHH SHE POOPED!" way).  The purple foam soap and bathtub markers are working as we speak... but she still whined for the first 30 seconds she was in there.
