Anyone have experience with Roseola?

Cross posted

My DD has been at the doctors office three times this week. started off with goopy eyes and tugging ears so we went in and she had ear infection and pink eye. Got antibiotics and started those. About 36 hours later she started getting a fever, totally lethargic, bad cough , vomiting and diarrhea We went back in and they gave us breathig treatment for the cough and we started Motrin. dr said come back if not better in 4 days, it wasn't so we went back. The fever kept getting higher and I was worried about her not eating and getting dehydrated. The dr ran blood test and said it was a virus along with the ear infection. So just last night the fever went away and she started acting like herself again ( plus a cough). Then this morning I noticed a small rash on her belly. Over the day it has spread to her chest. Small pink dots. Doesn't seen to bother her. I've googled rash after fever and round Roseola. Plan to call dr on Monday but since her fever is gone and she's acting more like herself I'm not super worried. However my mom is freakng out.
Anyone with similar experince or does this sound like Roseola for those that have had it?

Tia!

  • Sounds like Roseola to me. If your LO has the rash, then the worst part of Roseola is over. There's not much you can do for it, the rash will last for about a week.  It may flame up again from heat over the course of the next couple weeks though, so don't be surprised if you see it again.
I hope she starts feeling better soon!

Thank ladies! I'll def call my pedi in the am just to report and confirm but sounds like the rash will go away soon. Did any of your LOs have a lingering cough as well? My DDs cough is still really frequent and wet sounding.

  • We just went through this as well. She had a fever and miserable for a couple of days. Then yesterday a random rash appeared. I thought it was a food allergy, but I knew I hadn't stated anyhing new. This now answers my question.

  • Sounds like Roseola in combination with another illness.  For DS, he was 18 months and it was a sudden high fever 104.5 followed by a severe head to toe rash by the next morning that took a few weeks to completely clear up.   With DD, she'd had a cold the week before, but no symptoms at the time her fever started.  It lasted a few days and never got very high (102ish?), and only a mild rash on her torso the evening the fever broke and it was gone the next day.

DS1 had it around 10 months. Basically unexplained high fever, thought it was ear infection (may have also been) and he had a cold (but he always had a cold). It finally went away after 2-3 days and then voila-- the rash.  Since he was on a new antibiotic, doc asked me to bring him in to double check it was not a reaction.  She said I was right and waived the ill visit copay.
