Random BF question

Just wondering... How/why does a baby decide to switch sides while nursing? Like I was just feeding DD and I know there was plenty of milk on the right but halfway through she decided to switch and then went to town on the left? Does it taste different after a while? Is it a flow thing?
I am dying to know what goes on in that little brain!!

My lo goes through a favorite side thing. It changes often. Maybe the let down.

Same as PPs said...my LO definitely switches once the flow is slowing down especially if she's really hungry

Yep, this is what I think too. She's just lazy and doesn't wanna work any harder for her milk than she has to.

  • My confesssion is that since birth, LO has never had a meal that was both sides. He's alwaya been his own version of a "one and done" kinda guy. ;-)
  • @lisa1129 mine just got his first tooth and acts just like yours. Poor poor nips.

Your nips have my sorries. At least DS doesn't have teeth yet, but he bites hard so it still hurts.
I always thought "yay no teeth" because he has always been such a biter. When his tooth came in I nearly cried in fear.

My mom has told me stories about my sister biting her so hard that she drew blood. I don't know if I would be able to continue after that.
That is my biggest fear. Boys in DHs family are very big and rough. LO is huge and already pretty rough.
  • He is mostly a one sider, but sometimes I'll switch sides for my own comfort if I feel pretty full and I know it's going to be a while before he eats again. Mostly at bedtime this happens
