What do you do with clothes your twins outgrow?

Are you saving them for possible kids in the future? Saving for sentimental reasons? Donating? Selling? I have so many double / coordinating outfits for my girls. I hate to split up the matchy twin outfits, but I probably won't need two of everything if I save clothes for potential kid #3. I know the chances of more kids in the future are slim for us (age + infertility) let alone the chance of twin girls again. So why am I finding it hard to part with their clothes that don't fit anymore? What do you do with matching clothes your twins outgrow?

Re: What do you do with clothes your twins outgrow?

  • My local multiple group has an online b/s/t and a twice yearly consignment sale. I'm having b/g twins and probably won't have many matchy outfits because most of my girl clothes are hand me downs from my DD.
  • I'm also having a hard time, so I'm just boxing everything up for now. Realistically, these are our only children, but I'm just not emotionally ready. Maybe with some time, I'll be able to select just a few pieces to keep and give away the rest.

  • I'm very sentimental about my kids' clothing so for now, I've saved most of it. I will go through things at some point and give them away, keeping only a few select items.

  • We're going through this right now.  I am saving the outfits that have sentimental meanings to them (coming home, holiday outfits etc.)  We don't have tons of doubles but the stuff I do have doubles of I'm giving to my best friend.  We are keeping everything else in case we have a third.  It's funny, I thought I was completely on the fence about having a third but I can't get rid of any of their clothes or my maternity clothes.  I'm guessing I do kind of want a third lol....

    I sell the ones I don't care about and as for the rest, I'm saving them until we are 100% done having children. After the last baby I'm taking all the outfits that I loved or were for a special occasion and turning them into quilts for each child.

  • * kept a few outfits for sentimental reasons
    * kept enough clothes for 1 baby, focusing more on gender-neutral stuff (I did this through size 18m or 24m; after that I started selling/donating it all)
    * sold most of it
    * donated/loaned some to my sister or close friends
    fraternal twin boys born january 2009
  • I kept everything. Now that I am pregnant with my 3rd and last baby and it's a boy, I'very gone through all my girl clothes. I halved all the doubles (keeping half just incase I have a surprise on delivery day) and I'm going to sell the rest. I took out certain things with sentimental value for each twin. I definitely am having a hard time pulling the trigger to sell. It's all still sitting in their room in tubs.

  • I've given most of mine away to friends. A few pieces I'm holding into or sentimental reasons. But we're done having kids.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one having a hard time parting with them. I do love the quilt idea! I have a donate box and a save box going. I met a couple due with twin girls in a few weeks to give the donate box to. Although right now my save box has a lot more than the donate box :/ maybe I will feel less sentimental as time passes.

  • I save whatever I feel like I just can't part with (which is more than I should be keeping, but oh well), and then I take the rest to two different resale stores and donate whatever they don't buy.

    I saved them for a few years then sold the matching/coordinating outfits. I figured if we end up having more kids I'd buy used and use the few single outfits I kept. We probably won't have more kids though (did Ivf). It was hard to part with the clothes but by the time my kids hit 3 the storage bins were taking over my house.
