Nursery Talk

edited June 2014 in December 2014 Moms
I know we've had this talk before but its been awhile and if anyone is like me, ideas have changed, plus a lot of us know sex now.

I found this picture today and I have decided to build a nursery around it.
I am so excited that I am going to paint this week and do the baseboards (They need replacing) now, so that my husband won't have to deal with it, because he tends to take projects and over-do them, haha.

What's your idea (this week, anyway!)

Re: Nursery Talk

  • I have plans for a sunny day theme with bumble bee bedding and Winnie the Pooh decal stickers.
  • I'm in a slight panic mode right now. We just sold our condo (closing on July 1st), and we have NO idea where we will end up next - whether it will be in a place we purchase or rent. The real estate market in my state is crazy, and for every offer we put in there are 15+ other offers on the same place, offering much more and in cash. How the heck do I compete?

I can't wait until I know where I'll be living with our baby arrives so that I can start planning on a nursery. Until then, I'll continue to waste time on panicking.

  • Our guest room, which has a beachy nautical theme, will become the baby's nursery. I love the room so much I'm hesitant to change it. I will probably change some of the furniture but keep the decor.
  • If it's a boy we will stick with our FSU garnet and gold theme. Then when he gets a little bigger he will probably share the travel theme like my other boys.

If it's a girl, I will be using this picture as my inspiration.

  • DH and I decide to be inspired by rendering design drawings from St. Augustine's Lighthouse that I have. So we decided Nautical themed it is going to be and I also have Finding Nemo pictures in there as well since our house use to be a vacation rental. :)

  • Is it terrible that I really haven't thought about this at all, and that I kinda doubt I'll go full on theme even once we're farther along? Part of it might be that we're moving, and basically setting up a full house from scratch so funds for this kind of stuff are going to be TIGHT, but even beyond that I'm not sure I have a problem with neutral walls and some simple cute things.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the look of these beautiful nurseries, I'm just not seeing where that energy is going to come from!
  • This LO will be sharing a room with dd. So if lo is a boy, he will have a purple bedroom. :-)

I don't have a theme. We're working around the colors white and gray and maybe add a splash of color here and there.
  • For a boy I have had a few thoughts. Either a basic animal theme or a rustic, forest creature or alphabet. I spent so long planning DDs nursery, and I think I may do something little simpler this time, which probably means animals.
  • I'm really torn. DD's room is vintage Paris chic - white and shades of light pink.

The room that will be the new nursery currently has yellow/tan walls, which we'll obviously paint. But the baseboards, crown molding, doors, and blinds are all brown. It's gorgeous, but I'm really at a loss of what we'll do if this babe is a girl. If it's a boy, no problem. With a girl though, how do you incorporate so much brown?

You could do a beautiful sunset type theme with the dark molding! Golds and red and pink :)

  • Love those ideas @kayhold‌ ! I don't know. I didn't do a theme with DS' room. Just did colors and pictures I liked. I'll probably do the same with this one. If its a girl:gray walls with purple and white accents. If its a boy: gray walls with black, white and blue accents.

  • Haven't really come up with a theme yet, but thinking that the colours will probably be grey and lilac. (Or some shade of purple).

On Pinterest, if you search pink and brown nursery, you'll find lots of beautiful pink and brown rooms. My favorites are the vintage inspired ones that incorporate softer colors into the palette (creams, cafe au lait) along with the pink and brown to lessen the contrast. Maybe finding a bedding set that would incorporate those colors would be a good place to start?

  • We are keeping out DD nursery the same, it is Lion King Theme. So I will be working on a little girls room. The plan in to use neutral colors, yellows, melons, and greens. I also love a sign I pinned that is a Shakespeare quote, "Though she be but little, she is fierce." My Pinterest board is a little overwhelming at this point, I really need to narrow my ideas!

Those are amazing and I love the suitcase shelves!! Glad you've brought this up because we've been talking about this as well and struggling with some ideas.

Since we live in a 1 bedroom and we're team green, the nursery section will tie into our bedroom's theme which is tropical island inspired (shades of cream and aquas, beach photos from our travels). We'll incorporate some travel elements as well (vintage maps, globe). I hope it comes together!

Lol this is our plan as well! No need to buy and paint to an excessive extent for a little one that is too young to understand any of it. Maybe in a year or two once they go to their own room we'll do something special.

I have a one bedroom apartment as well but I saw some great ideas on shared spaces. I love the rock and roll theme, I might have to check that one out. My hubby is a guitar player so it might fit in with us as well. There are some really great ideas out there. I was surprised.

  • I'm waiting until we find out what we're having next next month, but if it's a girl I would loooove to do a black, white, and purple Paris theme. If it's a boy I'm not sure, but I'm leaning towards just doing a color them of some sort.

  • Our baby will be in our bedroom for probably the first year. We have room to set up a separate nursery but it would be on a different floor than our bedroom and that sounds miserable to me. Our room is really big so we will just set up a nursery area for the baby in there. We won't do a lot of decorating but I was thinking maybe a woodland theme for the crib sheets, etc at least.

  • This is baby number 2 and it will likely be in our room for the first few months, then we want the babies to share a room so unfortunately this baby will have to like the Australian animals theme that is currently in DD's room. H is from Australia.

Ha! This... is my life. Our house is currently in Chicago... but we are temporarily renting in the DC area. Our theme is also "too many people in a small space, with another on the way!" otherwise known as a classic sardines theme :)

  • I'm thinking either neutral colored safari theme or a beach theme with beige, white, and blue . Can't decide!
  • Whether it's a boy or girl i am doing elephants! I love them
  • Aw I love everyone's ideas!
  • I'm definitely doing nautical no matter what. MH is a captain, so any way to incorporate that I'm all for it (he's in his dream job, so proud :) ) anywho I'm thinking whales and anchors for boy. For girl I'm thinking a more tropical spin, but we shall see! Love everyone's ideas!

  • My little boy will get a super hero room. (Daddy is a comic book nerd.) I'm thinking about the same thing for a girl, but I really would love to do a purple and gray pretty bedroom.

  • One bedroom apartment here, so just the standard crib next to bed look. We'll be doing green no matter the sex. I've seen some cute wall stickies of frogs (I love frogs) so maybe incorporating some frog wall stickies/sheets. Ehh, we're pretty minimal, so basically a crib and sheets will do for the "nursery portion" of our room

  • We did the nursery while we were still waiting to adopt before we got pregnant. It is a modern gender neutral nursery in grey, white and orange with pops of teal and an animal theme. I love it and it will be fun and cheerful for a boy or girl.

I am so behind on this! I am embarrassed to admit that I am just now decorating my 11 month old's room. Lol! I think he is going to eventually be moved into my older son's room and the new baby will have his room.

My older son's room is a transportation theme. We painted a train, cars, trucks, and motorcycles on the walls. There is a cityscape and some airplanes as well.

My younger son's room has light green walls and I am just now putting up little owls on the walls. It has been hard to find non-pink owls for his room so it has taken a while.

The new baby will be in our room for the first six months or so anyway so I guess I still have time.
  • Everyone's ideas are great! If our babe is a boy, we're thinking retro robots and space. If it's a girl, an enchanted forest. We went to our local arts fest this weekend and got lots of cute ideas!
