How do you have time to read?

I'm very jealous of your book club.  I was always an avid reader growing up but its something I haven't been able to find time for in the past several years.

When do you find the time to read?  Before bed, during lunch hour, just on the weekends?

Re: How do you have time to read?

  • I usually read before bed.  I don't do it everyday.  Sometimes I read during naptime instead of cleaning the house ;)  I don't have a certain carved out time for reading.  I usually end up neglecting something else in order to read.

  • I used to read or watch Netflix while nursing.

Now that DS is in daycare 2x a week, a couple of times a month I will treat myself to breakfast OUT, and I will linger and read. It feels extravagant, but it does set a nice tone for the rest of the day.

I probably had a stretch of about 6 months, when transitioning to solids/having less nursing time and until he started going to daycare, when I didn't get much reading done. I'm not sure if that's typical or not.
  • I was reading 100+ books a year prebaby. Yeah, that's not happening any more. I only read after he goes to sleep at night for maybe an hour.

  • I love to read and used to read a lot during my free time.  Now I have no free time but I can do a lot of reading while nursing and/or rocking LO to sleep.  It's now rare for me to get to read an actual book book, but I have a Nook and that makes it so easy to read a few chapters several times a day, one-handed without losing place, and with the backlight can even read during the late night nursing sessions.

The only real reading I've managed to get done lately is school reading and I do it while nursing DD. When DD goes to bed for the night I do a few things that I need to get done and then I go to bed and I'm usually too tired to read at that point.

  • If the little one is little enough, you can read adult books to them.  They don't know what you're saying anyways.
  • I'm not in the book club but I only read while pumping.
  • After she goes to sleep for the night. I usually still have to wind down. (Like what in doing now after work :) )

  • I am another one who reads while nursing. I was reading a lot more, but I still read a good bit.

  • Before bed, nursing if he is already asleep and while I pump.
