low sperm count

Hello,

My husband and I are TTC after VR.  VR was done 3/3/14.  We had his first post op semen analysis completed.

His count was 6 million with less than 10% motility and normalcy.

I am wondering has anyone been able to get pregnant naturally with a low sperm count? and if so what was the count.

Thank you for your help.

Re: low sperm count

  • Congrats on the BFP.  According the the doctors office who did the VR along with the local OB/GYN we will be using (they do IUI/IVF if needed) they said with the numbers it is not impossible.  So with that begin said I am going to use FF to its capacity starting with my next cycle.  We just "officially" started trying and I expect it to take a few months.  I will be excited/shocked if it does happen sooner then at least the 6 mo marker.

  • @‌larsonbussman me and my partner used a donor... With Our first 2 iui's the counts were great, 10 and 12 million with over 60% motility...with no luck we tried again... This time the count was 3.3 million with 36% motility, we were extremely upset, even called the sperm bank and complained. Only to find out it worked and I am 5 weeks pregnant! It only takes one!!! Stay postive!
  • My dh cut out alcohol completely per his urologist and we could not believe how much his counts improved. Remember, it only takes one!

  • Congrats!  That is awesome.  I know his numbers should only improve with time and following the VR docs orders.  :)  I am excited and can't wait to see what the future brings.

My husband has been sober for 23 months now :)  So I am hoping that with following the VR docs orders the numbers will go up.  And you are certainly correct it only takes 1.  The OB that I am going to use along with his partner and the VR doctor said they have others who have gotten pregnant naturally with less.  Time will tell :)

  • My husband and I tried getting pregnant for almost a yr before we decided to get him tested. And we found out he had low sperm count. We were both so bummed by the news that we took the month off from "trying". Next cycle we found out we're expecting! Good luck! It is definitely possible.
  • My husband had a VR May 2013. We TTC for one year and I am around 6 weeks now. It can be discouraging bc it can take time. I always got PG right away before his vasectomy which he had a little over 3 years before his reversal.
  • Although I'm not sure what the total number was, we had 10% motility and of that only 2% progressive motility (moving in a straight line). Our RE said that wasn't even enough for regular IVF. I think he said they needed 30,000 per egg and once they did the math and removed all the sperm that wouldn't work it was less than that. We were told we would need to do ICSI (where they inject an individual sperm into each egg). However, I got my BFP the month before I was supposed to start the whole IVF process.
I think it's definitely possible for you!

My DH ate a small handful of walnuts daily, and after samples, his sperm count rose each month/cycle. Try it and see if it works for you also. It's the omega-3 that helps with sperm count. GL!

  • Thanks for all the support/advice.  I do have him taking a multivitamin, COQ10, zinc, Vitamin D, Omega's, and folic acid.  Hopefully with those along with "pipe cleaning" every 3-4 days things will go up.  I am charting and taking prenatals.  I figured it would take us 6 months to a year but the whole charting stuff (advised by our potential OB, the VR doctor, and my PCP) is starting to stress me out.  I am going to chart for 2 more months to make sure I see ovulation markers, and then put a hold on that for now.   He does have a SA to be done in September if we are not pregnant yet, so I am interested to see what the numbers changed to.  So time will tell and I know the good lord will give us a child when he feels we are ready.

  • You can with low sperm count. Hubby has it and we just found out I'm pregnant it's all about the timing of the sperm but eventually a little guy will get to the egg just takes time and also when you worry about it or stress about it. It's only going to take longer so don't stress or worry just have fun with eachother!
