s/o: first car!

what was your first car?

i drove my mom's ford windstar as much as i could, but my first own car was a ford aspire.  manual steering, stick shift, no power anything, NO RADIO, no clock, no air, i'm not sure if there was heat or it was just my breath recirculating.  it as teh size of an egg.  i used to sweat when i was driving just turning the wheel.

the aspire was one step up from a huffy and one below what the flintstones drove.

Re: s/o: first car!

  • A 2 door Toyota Corolla hatchback that was probably about 8-10 years old at the time. It was a really nice little car though- my mom bought it from a little old lady who didn't drive it very much and who had kept it in tip-top shape.?
  • Mine was a Geo Storm.  I thought it was the cutest car.  I bet there are only about 3 of them on the road today lol.

  • My parents gave me my grandparents' 1976 Plymouth Salon. It was HUGE and it was maroon. We fit 10 people in there once and it wasn't all that crowded!

  • My first car was a '98 Neon---it was a gift for my 21st birthday.
  • VW Rabbit.  It was very much like your first car, except I had a radio.  Oh, and mine would stall every time it rained.  I paid $900 for it.
  • squishy---mine was an aspire too!! it was red and all my brother and his friends called it the " ZIT ! " ha ha ha!
  • 1982 280zx.  I loved that car.  It was a piece of junk, but damn, I loved it!

  • I had a 1986 cavalier wagon. It had almost 200,000 miles on it and was a stick shift. The alternator was cracked so the belt would always become lose and I would always have to tighten it. The fan wouldn't work properly, so if I sat at a light too long or in a drivethrough to long, I would have to turn the heat on (even in the dead of summer) to cool off the engine (otherwise the darn car would stall).
  • My first car was a powder blue 1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cierra, that I started driving in 1996.  It had no A/C and no tape player and I affectionately referred to it as the Big Blue Beast.
  • 1981 Olds. I got it in 1994 - so it had a few miles on it. It also had rear wheel drive. It was lovely in the winter when I would try and get up the huge snowy hill on our road. I ended up in the ditch many times sliding backwards down the hill.

1995 Honda Civic EX Coupe :).  I loved that car and I bet it is still on the road now!

Thanks mom and dad!  Embarrassed  FWIW, I certainly didn't have the nicest car amongst my friends and didn't really realize how lucky I was/unusual it is to get a new car until I moved out of state for college.

  • I was lucky.  My parents bought me a brand new chevy cavilier for HS graduation and drove it up on the back lawn when I was out running an errand before my grad party.  When I got there, my friends & family were there and I burst into tears and sobbed with joy.  It only had 7 miles on it (insane!) and it was a 2 door purple coupe.  LOVED that car.  Drove it for 140,000 and didn't have any engine issues with it at all.  It froze shut a lot but that's normal here when you park outside :)

  • i used my mom's camaro for a while and then my parents gave me a down payment for my first car when i graduated from college, 2000 honda accord.  loved that car!
  • Brown Mercury Sable.

  • 1993 geo prizm

my parents bought it as a "family car" when I was 16.  I got to drive it for a year (I was a senior in HS when I was 16 - turned 17 right before graduation), and then they had it while I was in college.    It was signed over to me when they finished paying off right after I finished college, and I drove it into the ground - that car lasted us 9 years.

  • hey..I had a Geo Prizm too!  I got it for my graduation.  It was a 92' (so it was around 10 years old) Light blue...but it ran great and all paid for!!!
