General pre school sick guidelines?

I am a SAHM and never had to deal with this and I couldn't find anything on the schools site. DS is starting summer camp (3 mornings a week) on Monday where he will be attending pre school in the fall. Of course this morning his nose was slightly stuffy and he has a little cough, some sneezing. No fever and he seems a little better now, nose is not runny. It could be allergies but I was wondering if it is not or gets worse, when do you keep them home and when can you take them?

Re: General pre school sick guidelines?

  • I would not keep my LO from school for a slightly stuffy nose and cough.  Unless he seemed to sick to go I would send him.  Obviously, if has yellow/green snot, or is hacking up a lung it's different.

  • At all of the schools my kids have gone to, if they don't have a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, or yellow/green snot then they are clear to go to school.  Obviously use your judgement but if the nose is running clear, I would be fine with sending him.  It just sounds like a little cold or allergies.

This.  I think the standard is usually 24 hours fever free after they have had a fever, too.  In your case, it sounds like allergies.
