Hemp insert logistics

1) what kind do you recommend? I've seen a lot in regards to Joey-bunz and Joey-bunz premium? Are the premiums really worth the extra dough? Other brands?

2) how many should I buy? LO is leaking (BG 4.0) at legs (clothes are wicking pee through) and when I pull out the BG inserts (I'm using the full size plus newborn simultaneously) they are totally saturated (2.5-3hrs later). The time of day this occurs is always different. Since I don't know when the leak will occur I feel like I'll have to use hemp all the time... If I have a 24 diaper stash and get an insert for each one... That's a lot of money!

3) any other ideas?

I like the large GMD hemp doublers. I don't know how they compare to Joey-bunz. I can say that they are a bit beefier than Hemp Babies.

How many diapers do you have in a load of laundry? I would have that number plus however many you need to have ready while that load is being washed/dried. Does that necessarily make 24 for you?

You could stuff your pockets 100% cotton flats that are cheaper than hemp and plenty absorbent, and do away with your MF altogether.

If you're not sure what to do, maybe start out by getting a half dozen of each. Prep them, try them out and see which works better for you.

I'm on mobile, how old is your LO? Maybe they need to be changed more often?

He's 11 weeks old today. I typically change him right after I nurse (every 2-3 hours). I've noticed that even at 2 hours his onesie will be wet at his thighs. He's a peeing machine

11 weeks I would def change every 2 hours. Are they new diapers? Are there any gaps?

Agree. We changed every 1.5-2hours. But fully saturated inserts (both OS and NB) seems like a heavy wetter. I'd get the hemp inserts. I like thirsties brand

I have both the premium and regular Joey Bunz. They are both fine. The main advantage of the premiums is that they dry faster.

I like loopy dos and blueberry combo inserts. They both have microfiber and hemp.

Bamboo absorbs slightly less than hemp but more than microfiber. A lot of people will double up bamboo and microfiber.

I would also suggest bamboo or blend inserts from Alva. IME, they absorb about the same amount. The blend is a little thicker and actually easier to stuff. Joey Bunz inserts are awesome too. Right now I'm using half a premium insert plus a NB sized Alva bamboo in my BG 4.0s. I use the full premium hemp plus a regular Alva bamboo overnight.

I bought used BabyKicks. I only have a few. I only use them for ON or in my crappy Zulily diapers with shitty PUL.  My son is not a heavy wetter.

I like the premium because they dry faster. I would start with 3-6 and see how you like them. You don't have buy them all at the same time. I have replaced all my microfiber with hemp inserts but did it over time.
