August Brooks - small concern.

My husband has fallen in love with August Brooks. I disliked brooks at first but it's grown on me quite a bit.

The only thing holding me back is that Garth Brooks has a daughter named August Brooks. She is not really famous, and does not appear to be following in her fathers footsteps.

Would this keep you from using this name for a boy?

  • Yea, that would have zero effect on my choosing an awesome name.

  • LOL. I wasn't sure if this was a logical concern or illogical pregnancy concern, haha. Thanks <3
  • If you love it, go for it!

  • If you initially disliked Brooks (and I can see why), I would pick a different middle name to go with August.

  • It wouldn't bother me, I'd still use it.

  • I wouldn't let the Garth Brooks association ruin it for you.  However, August Brooks sounds like you're describing a brook...if that makes sense.  But I LOVE August, and can handle Brooks since it's in the middle name spot.

I would not let Garth Brooks have that kind of authority over my life.

+1.  I just don't like the combo together.  Too nouny.

Not at all. It is a great name. I never knew the names of Garth Brooks' kids. I roll my eyes at him for putting 2 boy names on a girl ...
Well, Brooks is their last name, but I do prefer August on a boy over a girl, even though the only August I know IRL is female.

OP, I wouldn't let it deter you from using it. I've taught a Mary Shelley and a Michael Jordan, so there are people using far more "known" names than the one you're considering.

  • You know, screw it. His middle name is going to be used what, 100 times in his entire life? I love August and don't want another name, my husband wants Brooks since it's a baseball thing and our last child. I'm sure I will get over it.
I may just leave his middle name off birth announcements, haha.
  • Love it, I wouldn't let it bother me.

  • I use DS's middle name every time I'm serious about something (for instance, he was running towards the road today and stepped across his boundary line.)

However, August is a VERY male name.  Garth Brooks is a dimwit for using that on a girl.

  • I love the name August. I don't really like Brooks so I would pick a different MN.

My husband is not willing to budge on Brooks unless i straight up veto it, which isnt worth hurting his feelings over, IMO, since he does have a say.
