How hard would it be to make this insert?

I've been wanting to try to replace my MF inserts for a while.  I tried a few things, including prefolds and I haven't found anything I like.  The main thing I like about BG inserts is their size and the placement of the snaps.  

How hard would it be to make an identical insert with the same snaps, just from cotton/hemp, etc.?  All you need for snaps is a snap gun thing right?

Also, if I can find an insert on Etsy or someplace that is the same size, can you add snaps later?  They don't have to be put on before you sew it do they?

You can out the snaps on after, depending on the number of layers.

I would think this would be doable. (I am planning on making inserts from bamboo/cotton, but haven't decided on size yet)

Snaps are normally added at the end, so if you find some on Etsy then you could completely add snaps yourself.
