Baby Names

Baby Girl name help - Opinions and suggestions???

We need some help with name ideas for our baby girl!
We thought we had decided on a Name - Emma. I've always loved that name and its been one of those names I planned for a girl since forever.
BUT I did not realize HOW popular it is right now, #1 and #2 on most lists! While I'm not trying to come up with a super unique name.... It just doesn't feel right to me now, I want to give her something a little more original then that.
Me and my hubby are having a hard time agreeing on another name.

He LOVES Astryd, and I really love Evelyn. He doesn't Like Evelyn, but likes Roselyn. I like Roselyn too(tho not as much as Evelyn)
I cant decide how much I like Astryd, Its apealing to me.. But...

Also, My SIL son is named Rowan. Does Roselyn and Rowan sound too similar together? she will only be the 2nd grandchild so there names will be used together alot I'd think. Is that something that should be considered?

A few other names we've tossed back and fourth a few times are:
Mira
Freya
Cora
Ada

Do you guys have any opinions on these names that might help us make a decision? or maybe something similar that you think we might have not thought of yet??

  • Is it pronounced Rose-Lynn or Roz-uh-lin...? Personally, I prefer Rosalind.

You might also like Vivian, which has a similar sound to Evelyn.

  • I think if you love Emma you should use it. It might be popular but that's not necessarily a negative thing. Just make sure you won't regret not using the name that you've loved forever.

I really do like Evelyn as well.

  • Thanks for the input so far ladies!! :) I was thinking of Roselyn sounding more like Rose-uh-lin.
So Maybe Rosalyn is more correct way to spell it? I wasn't really thinking when I typed Astryd.. thats how I seen it spelled on a lot of name sites, but I agree Astrid looks better.
  • Rosalyn and Rowan would definitely be too close as the only two grand children.

Astryd is bad. Astrid is great!

I like the other ideas that y'all have tossed around. Mira and Freya are my favorites. Other ideas:

    Brielle
    Erica
    Jennifer
    Karen
    Marie
    Maya
    Renée
    Sue

  • Yeah, Its hard to scratch off Evelyn since I realllllly Love it :p But I haven't been able to talk him into it, so I should stop thinking about it I guess!
I should probably go ahead and scratch off Astrid too... I think Im trying too hard to like it since he loves it so much and I wish I did.
This naming thing is so much harder then I thought It would be!!
  • If you love Emma I wouldn't let its popularity discourage you.

    I prefer Evelyn over Roselyn/Rosalyn.

Out of the names listed at the bottom I prefer Cora.

  • Also, I really wish I didn't hear the name Arya from a TV show. Because I REALLY love that name and so does hubby.  We both agreed we would name our daughter that if it hadn't been made so famous by game of thrones.
  • I agree that Astryd is bad-tryd.

DD's name, Adair, has a similar feel to some on your list.

    Also love Cora and Mira

Why can't you use Aria or Arya?  It's a great name.  I'm not sure I'd let a name being on Game of Thrones deter me if it was a real name that I loved.

  • You've had some great suggestions and some nice names on your list, but for what it's worth I think Emma is the best of them, and it sounds like you love it. I think you should use it. Just because it is popular doesn't mean it isn't special.
  • Emma is a great name and popular for a reason, but I can understand not wanting to pick the number one name.

I'm open to it, but hubby wont give it a chance. We love the show and I think he's worried we'd be made fun of by people thinking we named our daughter after a character on our favorite show lol. :p

I loved Mira also, but my DH nixed it because of the Spanish translation. (his family is Mexican)
  • What about Rosaline--it creates a similar but different sound. It's farther away from Rowan. I think it's a pretty name.

Definitely not a fan of Astryd. However, Cora would be my second pick.
