Potty Training

Pull ups over the underwear?

DD#1 is 2.5 and has we have been following her lead for potty training. She will tell us if she needs to pee or poop and will go on the big toilet, but she isn't consistent. She has been in pull ups for about a month now. One of her BFF's from school recently started wearing underwear and now she wants to wear it.

We tried it on Tuesday and she had one poop accident at school, but did great otherwise. Yesterday, she had an accident on our bed in the morning, three more at school, and another one at home.

DH said a friend recommended putting pull ups over the underwear. That way, she can still feel that she is wet, but the leaks are contained. Has anybody tried this?

We never used pull ups. However, for naps and bedtime for the first few months we used a Dappi diaper cover. Its a pull up kind and if by chance there was an accident it was contained. Just a suggestion since its obviously much cheaper then pullups.

Our neighbors did that with their daughter, particularly for car rides when they didn't want to risk an accident messing up the car seat.

We skipped pull-ups altogether. They are really just another form of diaper. I can see the concern of my neighbors, but we didn't find it necessary. We got a piddle pad for the car seat just in case, but it has never been an issue for us.
