You just pulled into the store parking lot & notice lo has a fully loaded poop as you're putting him/her in the cart. Do you...

Change lo in the car (in the back area of SUV) - and I've done it quite a few times!  That little stinker!  If it was still winter though, I"d go to the backseat.

  • I change her in the back of the SUV. The only reason I posted this is I'm wondering if that's strange?
Sometimes I feel like she's on display all spread eagle in a busy parking lot. Am I being silly?
  • Change her in the backseat. I definitely don't want her sitting in her poo!

Am I weird because I'd take her inside to change her?  I don't want her sitting in poop forever, but generally it's like, a 2 minute walk inside.

eta: I do have to say though, that I've tried changing her in the backseat of my car.  It was awkward, we were both having a hard time with it, she was sliding all over the place, and she ended up peeing and it got all over her clothes and the back of the car.  So maybe that's why I'd rather just take her inside.

  • @kwrecks‌ I don't think that weird. If I had to choose backseat or inside id probably go inside. It's just so much earlier in the back of my car...and more sanitary I feel like. But I hate public bathrooms in general.
  • @LokiLahve I feel the same way. I'd probably be a little more cautious having a girl than I do with DS. To me it seems like girl parts are more private than boys. I have no idea why. Society much?!

We went to a concert on Saturday and I was freaking out changing him on the lawn. I felt weird changing him around all those people. They didn't have changing tables in the bathroom (that I knew of) but at least we were in the family section (even though I only saw 2 other toddlers in the area!). I ended up having my sister and I blocking him and changing him as quick as we could. :P

  • Change him in the restroom. Don't have a car though so that isn't an option.

  • i'd take him inside as long as they have a changing station. if not, front passenger seat of the car with him on my lap if we drive.

  • I change him in the back section of my station wagon, but only because he HATES public restrooms. Between the echo-y-ness and the really loud flushing and hand dryers, it terrifies him. :(

  • I do it in backseat. I feel public restrooms are disgusting and she wants to touch everything now.
  • Changing in the car is fine with wet diapers. No for poop. She wiggles too much and I learned my lesson after I got poop on the back of my seat. No thank you. We go inside.

Typically in the car unless I know the store has a good clean changing area. I won't change him in target or the grocery store by we have a nordstroms and a Carter's in our open air shopping center and I'll go into either of those.

Eta: I actually only go in to nordstroms to use the bathroom or changing area, never to buy anything...
  • I have no problems changing them in a restroom. But based on that scenario I'm assuming my toddler is with me, and in that case it's easier to just lay him down in the back of the SUV while the 2 year old is still buckled safely in his seat (ie not running away). If it was just the two of us I would probably go inside if I can get to the bathroom quickly enough.

Inside for poop. I really don't want squirmy baby rubbing poop in my car. If it was just pee, whatever.
  • If we're in DH's car, I'd change him in the back area.  If it's my sedan, I'll take him into the store (provided they have a changing station).  LO hates changing stations, but changing him in my back seat is too hard since he's squirmy and hurts my back.

  • I've changed her both in the back of the suv and the bathroom. It all depends if the back of the car is full and exactly when I notice the poopy.

  • In the bathroom.. I have the disposable changing pads so I just throw one of those under her and wipe away!

  • Definitely in the back of the SUV. Wrangle two kids and the diaper bag into a public restroom? All for avoiding that whenever necessary. Especially with a 4 YO who has to touch and ask questions about EVERYTHING.

Yep. All of this. I keep a changing pad in the back of my SUV so I'm always prepared. :)
  • SS. I have a sedan and with as much as the seats are at a slant and as much as LO moves I've don't them in the trunk when it's empty. If its not empty id probably change him inside. Pee diapers I can do in my lap or the stroller.. Not poopy ones though

I'm a backseat changer. I've been to too many places that either don't have the changing stations or the bathroom is downright gross.

  • I change LO in my vehicle all the time. We have a mini van and the second seat is a bench, so there is plenty of room to change on the floor. We also have a portable potty seat stored in the floor if DD has to pee. Judge all you want, but I freakin love my mini van for the convenience factor.
  • I need to practice the art of changing LO on my lap...
