I'm disturbed

My BIL lives with a woman who has a 13ish year old son.  My BIL likes to act like he's into "tough guy stuff" like guns and he actually has several (I say act like because if you knew him you'd realize that it's just really not his personality - he likes to act the part).  Anyway, to his credit, he seems to have taken really well to living with a teenager when he has no experience with kids and the boy seems to enjoy having him around so that's great.  Except BIL's persona seems to be transferring to this boy in a way that makes me REALLY uncomfortable.  DH clicked the boy's FB today and his profile picture is of him with sunglasses, ammo and a gun pointed at the picture taker (both of which appear to be fake, thank God).  Am I wrong to think that's completely inappropriate?  His mother knows it's on there because she's FB friends with him and I'm smh at it /judging

Re: I'm disturbed

  • Guns should never be pointed at people unless out of self defense (or reasonable defense of property, like cattle or someshit).

    That picture is totally inappropriate.

  • This wouldn't fly with me. Gun culture is out of control.

  • I would be shaking my head at that too. It's really inappropriate. I have a female fb friend who does this with her 10 year old son. They do hunt and and I believe she teaches gun safety and responsibility but I still think it's inappropriate to post pictures of your 10 year old posing with guns to 'look cool'.

Most of my extended family hunt as a way of life for food. I've been raised around guns being used for practical purposes my whole life. I have no issues with guns for this purpose. But I just do not understand the guns are cool attitude that it seems your BIL has.

  • Not okay.  I can't even find the right words, as a responsible gun owner, for how infuriating douchebaggery behavior like this is.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • That's disturbing. A photo of my friend's pre-teens smiling and holding their guns (in a safe and appropriate way) while on a break out hunting? That I'm okay with. That's a moment of their day, not a "look how bad ass and threatening I am".
Yup.  To me it is about tone.
  • I'd be disturbed, too.
