Cloth Diapering

CD win, and Walmart fail

Last week we were at a church rummage sale, and we picked up some Xmas lights. DH took an empty box to put them in, a diaper box. The lady was all like "oh, you must see plenty of those." DH was the one to smile and say, "Actually.... We use cloth." the lady was saying how awesome that is. Then the other day, I was looking at sippy cups at walmart. This girl is there with some guy (her dad, bf, someone.... Idk). Before they left utterly confounded by the number of sippy cup choices, she picked up this one pack, and guy says how ugly they are. Then she points out that they're made from recycled milk jugs, and says how that's so gross. What would she think of my washing diapers instead of just throwing everything out...

No idea. Just think how gross we all must be with our CD if recycled milk jugs are gross tho.
  • They must be the kinda people who drink straight from the container of milk. That's more gross to me than the idea of using recycled plastic. And I must be absolutely disgusting cause I always throw a random towel into diaper laundry and sometimes it happens to be my towel for after the shower. Oh well!
If you knew better, you'd do better.

I also don't understand how that is gross. But to each his own.

Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World has benches that are made from recycled milk jugs. That lady definitely wouldn't be sitting on any of those!

  • Perhaps the lady just didn't understand how recycling works, and thought the sippy cup would make everything taste like spoiled milk.
  • So in her mind, new plastic that basically comes from ancient, rotting, dead dinosaurs is better than recycled?

Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
    It all revolves around you.
  • FFC: I f#@%ing hate Walmart!  Target fo lyfe!  Although, I was surprised when I took my once-a-year trip to Walmart the other day and saw they are carrying a bunch more green and healthy products than they used to.  I still had to stand line forever behind someone with dirty hair at the checkout because they only had 2 open though.
  • I saw that recycled brand at our Walmart! They have little plates too. If I hadn't been given so many plates already for LO I really wanted to buy them.

I really hate the "use something once" thing. I am in no way saying I'm the pinnacle of reduce/reuse/recycle but it's really not that strange of a concept.

I hate Walmart too, but unfortunately it's the closest store to us... Less than a 5min drive. The nearest Target is more than 15min away. So Walmart wins out if I just need something quick.

This made me laugh. We frequent Walmart too because it's the closest store to us. But by closest I mean 35 minutes away compare to target which is 2 hours away.

I did think of this when writing it out, but it's still true. Of course I'm going to go 5min down the street as opposed to 20min in a congested area, battling traffic.

  • Haha We were in a town with a target a month or two ago and my kids thought it was a magical place. They were amazed by the big red balls out front.
I'm going to start calling them child magnets.  They seem to magically attract children (mine included).

  • Target is about twice as far as Walmart from me (20 minutes vs 10 minutes). I will go to Target (or Shopko (20-25 minutes away in opposite direction) first.....then if I have to go to Wal-Mart, I will sometimes drive to a location further away (30ish minutes from house) just because that Wal-Mart has a better designed parking lot and is a better store.
