Making Bamboo Inserts?

Has anyone tried making bamboo inserts to stuff in pockets? If so, which fabric did you use and how did you like it?

Re: Making Bamboo Inserts?

  • Yes. Love them. I used bamboo fleece from natures fabrics. I make them four inches wide and about 12" long, four layers

  • Wazoodle.com has precut bamboo terry and bamboo inserts (and other fabrics). I ordered some but haven't gotten to serging up the edges yet.

Thanks! That is where I was looking at getting my fabric. Do you like the absorbancy of the fleece? I was tempted to add a top layer of flannel, but couldn't decide if that was too much. Also, do you use these for every day use or for overnight?

  • I'm also in the process of looking into this! I've been to both these sites but my knowledge of fabrics is limited. Does it really matter if I get bamboo fleece, bamboo French terry, or something with bamboo, cotton and polyester? I'm thinking of just doing 2 layers and making the big inserts to fold over 3 times to get 6 layers.

  • I bought some bamboo french terry by the yard, and it's incredibly soft but also kind of thin. It crawls around a little bit when I sew it. So far I have just made one prefold out of it, and even with 3 layers, it was not bulky at all. (It was a gift, so I can't attest to the absorbency yet.) The terry that I got not as thick as the bamboo fleece precut inserts that I bought at the same time. I will pay more attention to the fabric weight next time. If you have specific questions about the fabrics, you can email the Wazoodle site (I think even straight from their page), and they will get back to you within a day or so.

I use them as doubler inserts in my ON fitteds and sometimes with a flat in a cover…for that big first morning pee.  I love them.  they're very absorptive and wash well.  I personally wouldn't bother with the flannel-but my son isn't bothered by wetness

Thanks for the additional information! I think I am going to make some...now if I could only find the time :/
