Infertility

Weight gain

Hi everyone!
I have gained about 16 lbs since April, when we got back into IVF after a 2 year break. I think it's partially due to stress and partially because I have been weaned off my anxiety meds. I've been craving sugar like a maniac! (My serotonin levels are all out of wack from coming off the meds- even slowly) Not like a cookie here or there but where I can sit and eat a box in a blink! I have no self control! I'm trying to get back into a healthier way of eating in prep for my IVF next month.
Anyone else relate? Any ideas of healthier treats to help with my cravings? Thanks!! :)

I did have cravings and a desire to snack and eat a lot, but I think most of it was from stress and anxiety. I gained a few lbs from it, but I had to force myself to get back control. Hopefully your cravings subside. I had to empty out the fridge and pantry. I substitued with things like, low sugar granola bars, fat free greek yogurt, and fat free pudding, freeze dried and fresh fruit, and trail mix. I wasnt in a place where I could cut out the crap completely, but I definitely had to curtail it.

  • I second the fat free Greek yogurt - that's a sweet and satisfying snack.  I also like to snack on almonds, apples, and I've just always been a fan of fresh, cut veggies.  Air popped popcorn is also great if snacking is done out of habit instead of hunger.  It takes longer to each than cookies, and its much more healthy.

As far as watching what you eat altogether, have you tried a food tracker?  I have been using Sparkpeople.com for years for the free food and exercise tracking & the accompanying smartphone apps.  I have friends who use Myfitnesspal or other sites for the same purpose.
