WDYT of Magda as a NN?

I didn't really like it. Plus it was the grumpy housekeeper on SATC. But DS2 has started calling DD Magda and it sounds really cute coming out of his mouth. :) That somehow makes it fresher to me. Plus I like it heaps more than Mags which is something that comes out of my mouth with much regularity even though I hate the sound of it.

We would still use Maggie mostly for her NN, but I might want to pepper that with Magda, especially if DS2 keeps using it.

Honest opinions welcome.

I love Magda!  More spunk than Maggie to me.

I also don't think Magda on Sex and the City was cranky.  She was loving - she loved Miranda even if Miranda wasn't at all sure about her.  She cared for Brady for years.  She hugged Miranda and told her she was a wonderful person for taking care of Steve's mon.  Oh, I loved Magda on Sex and the City!
I grew to love her too, but she was a bit of a grump and took awhile to warm up to. That's pretty much exactly the situation I'm having with Magda. Oh, how life immitates 'art'!

  • My own name is Magdalena but I HATE Magda the way Americans pronounce it - grew up outside of the US and Magda sounds totally different where I'm from. Here it just sounds heinous to me. I don't let people shorten my name. Hate Mags too. Sound like an old hag lady... Maggie sound better. Though that is short for Margaret, not Magdalena, which is a version of Madeleine, so Maddie would be a more appropriate NN...

  • I think of Magda the same way I think of names like Agatha and Ursula. I like them because they are undeniably feminine, but they sound like warrior queens, not fairy princesses. Do not cross Magda. That is to say that I think it has a very different feel from spunky Maggie, but I sort of prefer it.
  • I like Magda a lot! I agree with pp's that it is strong yet feminine.

  • I used to totally hate Magda, but a friend just married a Magda (full name is also Magdalena) and she's absolutley lovely, so my opinion has been colored.

I love it. My SIL's name is Magdalena and she goes by Magda (or sometimes Madzia, which is the Polish equivalent). It feels like a NN for a strong girl.

  • I don't love Magda, but DH has a friend named Magda (short for Magdalena) and it's never struck me as odd or bad.  Not side-eye worthy.

I really like Magda.  We actually have Magdalena as one of our top girl names.  We would likely use the nn Maggie which I like a little more than Magda.

I'm not too fond of it (yet). Magdalena is a beautiful, strong name, 'just' Magda sounds quite harsh. I think that I could warm up to it though. ETA: wording.
