Father's Day Weekend

What does everyone have planned? Gift ideas? I was going to take DH to his fave restaurant on Saturday (the entire family is doing a cookout on Sunday). Then I learned my family wants to have their cookout on Saturday, so I am now trying to get my dinner reservations swapped around as well as the babysitter for LO.

You're not gunna bring your LO to Father's Day dinner? Strange.

DH is golfing with the dads in my family on Sunday AM and then my sister is hosting a BBQ at her house afterwards. I got him a NY Giants golf polo and Giants golf tees and I'm gunna put them in a mason jar with a little tag that says "you're a tee-rific daddy!" Then, I'm gunna pay for his round of golf as well.

I got DH a coffee mug that has his favorite picture of B on the front and then defines daddy on the back with phrases that I got to input (i.e. 1. Gives me snuggles, 2. Teaches me to clap, 3. Is loved by Mommy & Me! ) Then I'm going to fill it with the Lindt raspberry truffles that are his favorite.  We're taking a trip to Minneapolis to see his family Saturday and go to dinner up there, then Sunday, I'm gong to take him to brunch then over to my parents for dinner that night.  I still need to get him a card, it's so stinking hard to surprise him because we carpool, but I have class tonight, so I'm hoping to stop after work to nab it.

Tim and I are going on a canoe/camping trip on Fri and Sat. We are going with 2 other couples and it will be our first time away from Layla overnight. She is staying at my sister's house in Kansas City. We will be back on Sunday to pick her up and for Father's Day. My Dad is just going to head up to KC since all of us girls will be in town. So we are just going to do a family BBQ at my sister's house.

I bought Tim's card from Layla a few weeks ago, but I haven't bought him a gift yet. He got me a card, flowers, and a little cake for Mother's day. I don't know what the equivalent dad gift would be....

Friday night DS is spending the night at my dad's and H and I are going to a wine bar.

Saturday morning we'll go over to my dad's to get the baby and we'll all go to brunch together.

Sunday morning I'll get up with the baby and let H sleep in (he usually let's me sleep in on the weekend). A will wear a onesie with a stick figure and a cape that says "Dad = my superhero." I got him a coffee mug that says "World's Okayest Dad." I'll make him lemon blackberry pancakes. Then we're taking a walk at the arboretum. He wants digital drums but we're kind of cramped for space right now so he said to hold off on buying those.

My folks are coming into town Friday night.  We'll all go out to eat Saturday.  Sunday we're having DH's family over for a cookout.  I still haven't decided whether to get DH a chainsaw or a reciprocating saw.  Still don't quite know what to get my dad and DH's dad.  Will probably try and pick up a Worlds Greatest Grandpa mug for my dad and something else.  No clue what to get his dad.  I was going to do mixbooks but I waited too long and now they'd be super expensive and I just don't have time to do it.

I got DH reds tickets for the 20th. and I'm wrapping them with a baseball with Matthew's hand print on it and I'm gonna write "Happy 1st Father's Day" On the other side and I'm trying to find a baseball holder. I'm doing the baseball tomorrow cause I'm off and DH works. I'll give that with cards from me and Matthew on sunday morning before church. Then after church we're going to brunch with his dad and brother (his mom and sister are out of town) and then a grill out at my brother's house.

 

I also ordered a photo book from snapfish from Matthew's 1st trip to the aquarium but I don't think it'll be here in time..

His big present is our week beach vacation. I also made him a shutterfly book of him and the kids and got him nice work clothes because he will be traveling a lot now. We will make him breakfast on Sunday and get crabs for dinner (his fav)

So I just lurked O13, I'm gonna steal someone's idea and I am going to do a scrapbook and each year do a page from Layla on the reasons she loves her daddy. I think it will mean a lot to Tim, and he never tells me what he wants anyway!

We're going to my dad's to hang out at his pool (warm up weather!).  DH invited his dad and step mom to come over as well, since they get along really well with my dad.

I got DH this beer mug with E's birthdate along with the big puzzle piece from the pic below.  I personalized it with our family name and a saying, then will put two pictures in it.  I figure I can buy the smaller pieces to add to it over the years.

We actually worked on Father's Day gifts today. I made edible fingerpaint and let her go at a couple of canvases I covered with tape. That with a card and a yummy breakfast will be his gift. ..and maybe we'll go out for dinner if she is being good!

here are some pics of her working on the gift and the end result. We made one for Daddy and one for Grandpa.

The restaurant is fine dining and not really a place for LO. I just know my DH has really been craving these steaks. We will have our DD celebrating w us all day on Sat during the Fathers Day cookout.

By no means does it taste good, but it is edible and thank goodness cause that is the first thing she did with it.

Edible Fingerpaint:

1/2 tsp salt, 3tbsp sugar, 1/2 cup of cornstarch, and 2 cups of water. Combine it all in a sauce pan and warm it up till it thickens. ( I think I almost brought mine to a boil before it thickened.) Then pour it into individual cups (I used cleaned out baby food jars), add desired color, and let it cool. It should be about the consistency of pudding.

I ended up dabbing different colors on the canvas and let her smear it around. She had a great time!

We made a card at sign language class with J's footprint, and I'm getting DH's favorite pics of DS in a collage or photo album similar to @caishov. He said he doesn't want a gift, so I'm trying to do something sentimental instead and maybe pick up his favorite snacks or beer. He wants to stay home on Sunday and relax so that's what we'll do. I'll do some cooking, but I feel like I need to do more since he went all out on Mother's day.

I dont know how to tag you, but I estimated it made about 2.5 cups. It was more than enough to do two small canvases AND still have 5 full baby food jars left over

We're going to the US Open this weekend so I gave him his father's day present this past Sunday. I went all out this year and got him his dream guitar, a hollow body PRS. He never splurges on himself so he was very surprised and blown away that I got it for him. He'll keep it forever and hopefully pass it on to one of the boys one day.

Our anniversary is in two weeks, we were going to go away for the weekend but due to vet bills we can't afford it now..

We got tickets to the NASCAR race a few weeks ago and that was our Mother's and Father's Day gifts this year. I did get him a card that DD will "sign" and write something very sweet on. I think I will make him waffles since that was our favorite thing to do and we haven't done that much since DD was born. He also has a free pass to do whatever he wants all day and he says he just wants to catch up on the enormous amount of yard work that needs to be done.
