Trouble TTC

Not Sure What To Do...

So I thought that my hubby and I had come up with a plan.  After meeting with our RE in May, and her really pushing us towards IVF, we decided that financially we just want to continue with femara and TI for the summer and if nothing happens go for an IVF consult in August.  We have done one IUI and it was a fail, obviously.  When the nurse called and left a message with my negative beta results she said that since I had completed three cycles of femara that I had to meet with the RE because after three failed cycles we need to move on.  Well I know that the doctor is ok with me taking the medication because we just saw her.  We have no male factor just my left tube is blocked and it seems that I now ovulate on my own.  I only want to continue the medication to give me more follies.  Should we do another IUI?  I feel like it is a waste of $1000 per cycle since we have no sperm issues.  I would much rather save the money up for IVF should we end up going that route.  From my research I have found that really IUI is most beneficial for couples with MFI, but am I missing something?  I am also thinking that we may need a post coital test, maybe my mucus is hostile?  This summer was supposed to be a "break" of sorts but I can't turn off my IF brain or bear the thought of not trying for three months.

Re: Not Sure What To Do...

  • Is an IUI $1,000 more than TI?? At my clinic, it is only $350 more, and we decided that, at that cost, it was worth it to do instead of TI even though we don't have MFI. If it was $1,000 more I probably would skip it though and save the money for IVF. That's a tough call.

We never did an IUI because it was $600 more and my Dr. told me it would not up my chances because we don't have MFI my husbands SA is text book what normal is and I don't have any problems either because I kept getting pregnant every couple of months but still kept having miscarriages and we knew 2 were trisomy babies so it's egg quality because I'm older.

It's hard to say what would I do but IF I had not been getting pregnant and had confirmed trisomy babies I would prob do an IUI. It's also a hard decision because if you are going to do IVF which is expensive and that money could be helpful. I'm sorry I'm prob not a lot of help.

Have you talked you your RE about if an IUI will increase your chances? I know all of this is so confusing and we question every step we make, I've done it 1,000 times. You hear so much from so many people but I highly recommend asking your Dr what he/she thinks based on your individual case.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • IUI at my clinic is $575, ultrasounds and bloodwork about another $300. By just doing the TI we only have to pay for the ultrasounds. So we save $575 by not doing the IUI. RE says that doing IUI only increases our chances by 3-5%. I think that she is recommending it because it is a more aggressive approach, which I appreciate but when paying oop it all boils down to money. Awaiting AF and trying to make a decision is stressing me out!! I may start drinking before 5 o clock today :/

  • After discussing it at length with hubby, we decided to keep with our plan of medicated TI cycles for the summer. I go for an ultrasound tomorrow morning so now I'm just praying for no leftover follies! Thank you for your input ladies, it helps having people who understand to bounce ideas off. Other people who I've tried to talk to just don't get it.

  • My dr said our chances of getting pg with clomid was 13% and clomid+IUI was 20%, so not a huge jump but I will cling to any hope. Our first IUI was a fail but it was timed off OPK's, this time we are doing ultrasound+ Trigger. There is a school of thought that IUI increases your odds because it bypasses hostile CM thus increasing chances of getting pregnant.
