I have added garlic, onion powder, and a little black pepper to some of her savory purees. I don't add salt. Soon she will be eating what we eat, and I want to get her used to some spices now. I have also added cinnamon to her fruit and yogurt.
We use all the same spices (minus the hot stuff) that we use in our food. A lot of the time I will puree whatever we are eating. I make my own spaghetti sauce, which is very spice heavy, and she loves it.
@mskatiep how did she react to them? I added some garlic to green beans today but he hasn't eaten them yet, just curious!
Lol well the first time I added garlic, I think I went overboard cause that girl STUNK for 3 days! I don't know if it was her breath or if it was coming out of her skin. She loved it though, and no other reactions other than a smelly baby. I've added it since, just not as much lol.
I'll probably start once she's officially 7 months with cinnamon in the sweet potatoes and apples and maybe some pepper in the savory. Is there a recommended age that they say to start with spices to encourage a curious pallette? Any spices to stay away from? Anyone know?
Everything! He loves curry, cinnamon and apparently garlic - we had garlic rolls at a restaurant over the weekend (like, they're drenched in diced garlic and butter) and he inhaled one. Our server was cracking up, lol.
There's nothing to stay away from unless there's a family history of allergy (except salt and additional sugar).

Your bravery astounds me! DH and I love some curry like no other but I'm a nervous nelly...and I can't tell if it's because of what it'll do to her guts or what it'll smell like coming out the other end of her!

Dude, seriously, the baby prunes were WAYYYYY worse than any spiced foods he's had. Just, whoa. OMG to prune poops. O_O

I made enchilada casserole last week that was a little spicy and I blended it up and LO loved it! There's really no reason not to let LO try different seasonings and spices.
I also gave her split pea soup and that did not go as well. She liked it but it gave her some terrible poops and diaper rash for days!
@MelloChello we started meat at 6 months. I know I have read somewhere that some Peds suggest meat as the first food, but that was weird to me. We are doing meat per her Peds orders so that she gains weight.

See, I thought it was weird that he wants us to wait until 9 months! He didn't state why but I think that's just his general opinion. I would like to start sooner!
I say go for it! Layla loves it (just like her mommy.) Meat generally isn't know to be an allergen, if she tolerates it well keep it up. If she has tummy troubles then wait a bit longer

DH and I had steak for dinner the other night. So I zipped that up with a small amount of mashed potatoes and a little water to get the consistency right. I then mixed in some veggies he had already had introduced (spinach, zucchini, peas blend) and voila! Steak dinner baby style.
So easy! I might have to try this very soon!
Should I start by just introducing a meat by itself? Or can I go all in!?
I, too, love meat @mskatiep, so I'm excited to start!
Go for it! I pureed a chicken stew at first for him but he seems to like stuff better in their original form, which is fine by me since it means less work. He also has sucked on a strip of strip steak that I had made fajitas with and thought that was the coolest thing. Of course he didn't get much of it but he got to experience something new and it kept him entertained through dinner.

Wow you guys are making my baby so jealous! I'm gonna have to start upping the baby food, I've still just been doing simple single ingredient boring sh*t!

Same here. I hate to say it, but I guess my mom was right! She was pushing for spices in hayleys food when we ate there on Monday. Thanks for all of the yummy inspirations!
