Cloth Diapering

Frick, I've gotta strip!

My husband didn't rinse a few poop diapers and they sat 3 days in the pail. They flipping reak! I've washed over and over, rinsed overt and over. And they still smell horrible. Barn yard horrible!

I've never had issues with my wash routine and I'm certain the issue is because hubby didn't spray and they sat 3 days.

I've got about 16 to 20 diapers that I'm needing to strip. I hate using bleach, hate it but I feel it's my only option to get these things washed and smelling right again.

I've got a front loader, and I can control how much water it takes. I use tide, and my wash routine is cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse.

How much bleach should I use? I'm terrified that I'm going to ruin them.

Re: Frick, I've gotta strip!

  • I would use 1/8-1/4C of bleach only. I fill my TL up all the way the. Add the bleach to make sure it's diluted.
    I also recommend sunning them after they're washed. The sun is amazing at stains and freshness

  • Be rest assured that bleaching every so often will not destroy your diapers.  If your front load has a bleach compartment in the tray just put 1/4 c bleach in there.  Your washer will add the bleach at the appropriate time.  And follow it up with 2-3 rinses.  FYI- your washer may still smell like bleach after your rinses so make sure you are checking your dipes for the bleach smell.
  • Thanks.
    ::deep breath:: here goes.
