LO's personality

Now that our LOs are rapidly approaching two, we're seeing so much more of their personalities.  Who do you think your LO is more like, you or your DH?  Or, do they march to the beat of their own drum?  How has that affected your parenting strategies with them?

Re: LO's personality

  • T looks more like me, but he's so much like DH, that it's not even funny.  They are both very particular (albeit, about very different things), and like for things to follow a logical routine.   I generally tend to approach him in much the same way I do my DH, with respect to managing his expectations and emotions.  Makes it easier for me, but I think it at times is more frustrating for DH to deal with him because they are so alike.

He already seems to thrive on positive words much more so than hugs and kisses, which is more like DH than me.  The only person in the family who gets unsolicited kisses from T is D, and he is supremely concerned about him.  He's a good protective brother, very much like DH.  It is really fun to watch a little person run about my house who reminds me so much of DH!

  • She is a lot like my sister was at this age, into everything! She also has my sister's temper. I'm already worried what the teen years will be like. She has no fear like DH. She loves jumping off of things, climbing or anything else that scares me to death. I'm sure she'll be skydiving with her daddy as soon she turns 18. She also has a sweet and snuggly side which is more my personality.

  • She's very much like MH. It's uncanny. It does make it a little easier for me to stay a step ahead. I know all his tricks too since we've been together for 13 years. Sadly she has my temper. I get quickly frustrated also.

  • We each have our mini-me's. Liam like DH and Emma more like me. Liam is such a goofball and has so much energy. I don't know what to do with him sometimes but DH has no problem keeping up with him. Emma can be silly too but for the most part is the total opposite (like me) and has my temper too. Poor DH. Needless to say its tough to parent two kids with different personalities. I need to be aware that I don't have to treat them equally to be fair.
  • She is becoming more like me. She is shy to warm up to people and new situations but once she does she is outgoing. That is exactly how my personality is especially in new situations. She also gets very fixated on things. When she is working on a puzzel or looking at a book nothing can distract her. I am the same way when working on a project or reading a book. I cannot let it go until it is perfect or I am satisfied with it. My H sometimes complains that I become obsessive over things and it frustrates him sometimes.
  • Stubborn like the both of us.  A bit of a drama queen, like me.  Thougthful like Daddy.

  • I think he is actually a good mix of both. He is extremely well mannered and eager to please like I am (for the most part), and he is CRAZY active, like running circles around other kids his age, which both MH and I were like at his age. He is very charismatic and outgoing and quite the entertainer, which he definitely gets from MH.

He is strong willed like both of us and quick tempered like MH tries not to be (LOL), but that might just be the toddler in him.

  • I wish I really knew. I just don't know where typical 23 month old behaviour starts and her personality ends. She's a fiesty little thing who knows her own mind. But then I think isn't that true of most toddlers entering the independence phase at this age? She loves new kinds of stimulation, but then don't most kids? The only thing that really stands out is her go-go-go-ness. The kid is always the most active in all her little play groups, always has to be up and about and doing something. Which is like neither of us But she'll also sit still for hours if you read her books, which is like both of us.
  • V is my mini me. She looks like me and has the same character. I wish she had more DH features and characteristics.  Our middle son is DH clone and our oldest is very much like me.  So two to one in my favor ;)
