Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie-tubes

Hi everyone, new here and hoping to get someone with advice or similar experiences. I posted in another board and unfortunately it was not appropriate for that one. Hoping ladies here might be a bit more understanding and helpful.

I am under 30 and do have a nine year old child. We previously  tried conceiving for a little over a year without any luck. I was seen by my OB who performed an ultrasound and said my tubes were fluid filled and dilated. Underwent a lap that included HSG. After the lap she told me my tubes were not blocked or filled and the HSG went through without any issue. I understand for some people this is seen as a good diagnosis and I should not worry. I however am wondering if I should seek a second opinion. This time around we have been doing the baby dance around my fertile times but not pinpointing the exact best days and before when we were, we still had no luck. He has been tested and everything is normal and good on his end.  Although the lap came back good, I am not quite understanding how she can show the ultrasound showing hydros but then say there was nothing there. I am just looking if anyone has any suggestions or insights. I have tried to do research on being misdiagnosed with hydros but cannot find anything on it. Best of luck to everyone.

  • Welcome! I'm sorry things are confusing with your doctor right now and hopefully it all gets resolved for you soon.

  • I do keep a chart of my cyclesand watch know which week I am supposed to be my "fertile week" and it seems for the most part to be accurate. I notice changes in fluid and pains that does coincide with what the chart says.   Other than that I have not tried any OPK or anything like that..yet.

Does the chart record your temps or is it just guessing your FW based on cycles?

  • I don't want to offend anyone. I understand they can be helpful and understanding and definitely have been through much more than I have at this point. Just looking for a little help or advice. I apparently posted that my question in the wrong board which is why I came here now.
  • I didn't say everyone was horrible. I posted in the wrong place by accident and was attacked. Like I said I did not mean to offend anyone at all. Very opposite from that.  If I could take the post out of the wrong board I would. But I also don't think their harsh words were entirely necessary.
  • Trista- I have not done any temps or kits yet. I have been looking through some of the posts to see how accurate people feel they are and have been reading elsewhere for a bit now. I am just recently starting to really look into how these things work to aide.  Thank you for your response
  • I agree that recording your cycles and making a guess of when you are ovulating is not enough. Please consider learning how to chart your temps and other fertile signs. Check out Fertility Friend.

  • WHOCANITBENOW- I met with the surgeon two weeks after who said there was no fluid when she went in and the HSG just had no problem going through. I tried asking how it could look so bad on the ultrasound and she really had no info for me. Actually said she really had no idea.
  • Like I said we haven't been trying any kind of temp or kits yet to make sure we are "trying". Is what I meant. We have never used anything to help us detect when I actually ovulate except me keeping track of my cycles and determing when I should be "ovulating".  This is why everything has started now with me questioning my doctors findings and thinking about starting to try by using other aides.
  • I chart my period cycles and following what it says is my "fertile window". I am sorry if it is something different? Like I said I have no looked into most of these things yet, this is really the beginning for me.
  • I am hoping she was just stupid! I really did consider that, just hard to believe someone who has been doing it for 20+years could just misread something like that so easily.
  • The only charting I have done is tracking my periods and using a calculator to determine the approximate ovulation.

  • My doctor recommended the ultrasound and lap was why it was done.
  • I am not sure. I went in and told her my concerns and she first recommended the ultrasound and from there the lap
  • Thank you. I will start looking into the BBT. Are they really accurate?  I will read up on that more so hopefully can better understand the process.

What concerns? I am really curious what concerns you had when you weren't trying that led you down a path of IF testing and surgery.
    This.

And why exactly did they recommend surgery to you?  Was it just based off of that one u/s?  Did you not ask more questions about why they were recommending surgery to you beforehand?  I'm always amazed at how few questions people seem to ask about their healthcare.  It is ok to question your doctors, they are not perfect, they are human and they can, and do, make mistakes.

  • I honestly thought she knew best and was recommending what she felt was the next step. Maybe that should have been a red flag. I pushed her for more information after the ultrasound but she told me she really could not tell me much until she went in and was able to see what was really going on.She did ask me at the time of reviewing the ultrasound if removing both of my tubes was an option if they were in bad shape.

We had been previously doing the same thing, keeping track of my periods and basing my ovulation on that, which I am finding out was entirely wrong, without any luck but did not seek in help because neither of us carried insurance at the time.

What made you call your doctor and ask for an ultrasound?  I'm still not sure how you got there to begin with.

From there, I'm sorry, you just went ahead with surgery, one she asked about possibly removing your tubes, and you didn't get more info as to why she thought this was necessary??  I have no idea what to say to this.  I would have run away.  Fast.
