What is the difference between Turned and Serged?

Re: TT question

  • Turned means turned and top stitched edges. Serged is sort of a zig zag seam around the edge

  • Do they have a different fit or are they about the same?

They should be comparable. But IME the serged have more room around the legs, more stretch. Does that make sense?

When I see pictures of turned, they always look so bulky.

I have a hard time getting the turned TTs to tighten enough around L's skinny legs.  Some babies with chunky legs get some rubbing on their legs due to the serging.

  • I have a little tush turned and I love it. It fits really well and I don't find it any bulkier than the serged TT that I have. The 2 OS serged that I have, just don't fit C right. I'm sure, once she gets a little better I'll love them just as much. Plus, I like that the turned seem to be gentler on her legs. Though they definitely don't have as much stretch as the serged.

  • My first was tiny and always had chicken legs. (6lbs 7oz at birth and now almost 4 at only 25lbs) This one is measuring about the same. If I decide to try for one which one do you think I should go for?

How old is your daughter?  I had a turned LT that I got sold because I couldn't get the legs tight enough.  L is a year old and 21 lbs and I think the serged and turned OS fit similarly now.

  • I don't know that I think the Fusions are actually bigger than the fitteds, but to me, they are bulkier because of the fleece in them. I have both turned and serged, and both work equally well for me, but I prefer the look of the turned.

  • I guess it'd depend on how soon you wanted baby to wear it. Right away? I'd get a tiny tush. A few months later? I'd get a little tush. And if you happen to not like them, there's always someone who's looking to buy on the fan page.

C is 6 weeks 2 days and is 24" long and 12lbs.6oz. She's no chunk, just long. The little tush is still a little big, but not terribly so. She will probably outgrow length, before width.

M is 14 months and 17lbs. The little tush's are enormous on him. I don't love the fit, but they work for ON. Eta they are serged

  • My LO is almost 5 months, and about 18lb and 28" long. He has chunky thunder thighs and a big booty.  I have one LT turned fusion and it fits him well.  The OS fit fine, but are a little bulky.  That being said he is a heavy wetter so having a bit of extra fabric is useful for him.  We have OS in turned and serged.  I love the stretch of serged, but the turned are a bit gentler on his thighs.  I lean towards turned, I typically won't purchase serged unless I'm absolutely in love and cannot find turned.
