Transition from RE to OB?

I know I am weeks away from this, but when did you transition from your RE to your OB? My RE won't release me until I'm off all my meds - which means the end of PIO shots is in sight!!

Re: Transition from RE to OB?

  • I was released at 11 weeks but actually saw an OB at 10 weeks 2 days bc I needed an u/s and the local RE wouldn't do them for me anymore (I cycled out of state) .. I feel like my release was later than most. I reduced my PIO/ estrace dosages at 9 weeks and stopped totally at 11 weeks.

    I was released right before I was 10 weeks and I saw the OB at 12 weeks... I stopped progesterone and estrace both at 10 weeks...

  • I was a GS out of town, so that may have played a part, but I switched to my OB around 7/8 weeks but was on PIO until 10w.  Last time I saw the RE or spoke to anyone from his office was at the first u/s.

  • I've seen anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. I never transitioned, I had an old school doc who functioned both as an RE and OB. His primary focus was infertility but he also delivered IVF babies. I loved it because I got the same level of attention and care I did for IVF throughout my pregnancy. I had my docs cell and home phone number once I hit 30 weeks. Sadly he is retiring this year.

  • My RE released me at 7 weeks, though they still supervised my meds until around 11 weeks.  (I went back for occasional blood testing.)
  • Thanks everyone! I am so looking forward to the end of these PIO shots! I called my OB today and even if my RE doesn't release me til later, he wants to start seeing me around 8 weeks in conjunction with the RE. I guess my case is a bit unique with my background and how we ended up on this path - my OB is the one who found the cancer in the first place so I know he's not only thrilled that we're pregnant but he wants to make sure everything is looking healthy.

    @brooklynesque - I hope I'm that lucky!
    @liz4paws - too funny - the first chance I get to be done, I'm done :)
    @chicagobride_07 - that's so cool! and very convenient!
    @Mrs.McIrish - why wouldn't they do a u/s for you??

    I cycled out of state so I needed to get u/s done locally. I went to a former RE of mine for monitoring. She releases her own patients at 7 weeks so she wasn't comfortable doing u/s for me at 10 weeks bc she doesn't normally see babies at that size...So I needed to see an OB for a final u/s before my RE out of state would stop my meds and release me...Just a weird thing when cycling remotely...

  • Mine won't release me tell 12 weeks & I am a out of town Surro too.
  • Oh interesting, @Mrs.McIrish! It makes total sense tho - better to see someone who sees 10 weeks all the time :)

    I'm hoping I'm released prior to 12 - DH is taking a trip Week 10 to Week 11 so I'll have to head to my parents every night for the shot. Completely doable, just inconvenient :)
