TTC After a Loss

New, after loss

Hi!   My midwife recommended that I get on here for support.  So, here's my story...  My husband and I got pregnant the first time we tried and we were so excited.  We had a miscarriage at week 7.  We have been trying now for the last 10 months.  A few months after the miscarriage, I started having shorter cycles with shorter luteal phases.  I used to have a normal 28 day cycle.  Since December I have had 24 and 25 day cycles.  My midwife just started having me use progesterone cream and I just finished a 27 day cycle.  Progress!

Also, I just started charting last month!

I need encouragement.  Some days are great and I am fine.  Other days I find myself in tears.  If anyone has had short luteal phases and found a way to lengthen them, please do share!!

Thanks for reading!

Brandi

Re: New, after loss

  • Hi Brandi, I'm sorry you are going through this. I have longer cycles but I've heard that B-complex vitamins and red raspberry leaf tea are good for regulating cycles. Definitely talk to your midwife before you start taking anything. Sometimes it can do more harm than good. Welcome to the board!

  • I am so sorry for your loss. 27 days is good, even with a 24 or 25 day cycle it kind of depends on when you ovulate. I know there is plenty of knowledge here on this board so I am sure someone will be able to tell you their experiences. Welcome.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss, but welcome to the board.  As far as your LP, had you been using OPKs before to have some idea of when you were Oing?  Since you just started charting, you don't really know for sure when you had been Oing, so it's possible that your LP isn't getting shorter, but you just had some earlier O cycles.  It's great that you have started charting, that will really help you figure out if your LP is long enough!

I'm so sorry for your loss! This is only my second cycle temping, so I don't have much advice in that department. As a PP mentioned, definitely check out the newbie blog. It's really helpful and has a ton of information. This is a great community for support. Welcome. Hugs.

Welcome and so sorry for your loss & subsequent cycle issues. Someone else mentioned this and I'll reiterate- I've read and heard from various people that red raspberry leaf tea (or in pill form) may help regulate cycles and lengthen the luteal phase- may be worth checking out.

    ALL WELCOME!

  • Welcome to the board. So sorry for your loss. My lp was two days shorter after my first loss. I started taking b6 a few months in to try and lengthen. I got pregnant that cycle so I'm not sure if it lengthened it or not. I'm just starting my first cycle post this loss and am taking a b complex currently (the larger dose of b6 upset my stomach). Good luck!

  • Thanks everyone!!  I appreciate having people to talk to about this!  Thanks for any advice as well!!

LaRomana09 -- I was using ovulation sticks (not sure what they are called exactly).  My midwife says they aren't really very accurate so I am not using them now.  I guess I can't be sure that my LP has gotten shorter.  I just assumed that because my cycle has gotten shorter and my luteal phase for the last 2 months has not been long enough to get pregnant whereas before it was for at least one month.   Thanks for the help!!

As pp gave said if you aren't temping and charting you won't know when you're ovulating. Check out fertility friend for information on charting! Best of luck.

  • I'm sorry for your loss and welcome to the board.

Since you have just started charting, I recommend that you take a look at fertlitiyfriend.com.  It is the site that most of us on the Bump who chart uses. It also has a great tutorial section.

Generally, your LP stays fairly static with maybe a change of one or two days every cycle. If you see that your total cycle length is getting shorter, this is generally caused by your ovulation day shifting to an earlier point in your cycle. For example, when you had a 28 day cycle, if you had a 14 day LP, you would have O'd on CD14. When your cycle shifted to only 24 days, you would still have had a 14 day LP but probably ovulated on CD10.  A drop in cycle length is usually from an earlier O - not your LP randomly changing length. KWIM?

Charting will help you confirm when you are ovulating and to see how long your LP is. If your LP is 9 days or less, progesterone sups may be the answer to lengthen it. If your LP is in a normal length and you are just Oing earlier, then some hormone testing may be in order, especially if you were born in 1975.
