what car seat next?

My 3 y.old son is in a convertible carseat that I believe goes up to 70 lbs. He is only about half that weight. Should I anticipate him in that for awhile or should I be thinking about next seat. If so, what type of seat(are they called boosters) come next? I have seen the boosters for older kids but sort of confused between convertible and what's next. TIA

As long as the harness slot is coming from above his shoulders, he is perfectly fine in this seat. If his shoulders go above the top slots then you should look at a combination seat like the graco nautlius or britax frontier. He should be in a harnessed seat until between 5 and 6 years old atleast. Then move to a high back booster when he is mature enough to sit properly with a seatbelt.

Forward facing. he is in Britax Marathon.

When DS2 graduated into our convertible seat, we got a Graco Nautilus 3-in1 seat for DS1. It has harnesses to use just like a forward facing convertible, and those can be taken off and it is a high back booster, then the back comes off to be a regular booster. We used the harnesses until it was too tight. We love it!
