TTC after 35

Questions...please and thanks!

edited June 2014 in TTC after 35
So, this is something I keep asking my RE over and over again!  Luckily, his memory from one visit to the next isn't the greatest unless he puts it in his notes and he doesn't note my questions...
I had the day three tests done in February and my FSH was 1.5 - RE said anything under 10 good; my reserve level (can't really remember what it was called) was 50 and he said anything under 80 good plus my tubes were all open, easy flow and my ute had a normal shape so all was good.  Here is my question that I keep asking because I am not understanding the answer...what does all of this say about egg quality?  I've been taking CoQ10 200 in am and pm (just went from a total of 200 to 400) and I've read there are two kinds and one absorbs better (of course, not the one I am taking) so I plan to switch when I run out but I am hoping this is helping???
I've also asked about taking progesterone - if it doesn't hurt, why not?  Should I push for this?  He said I haven't proven anything yet and my lining is always nice and thick...
I go this Friday to see if there is anything stirring to try again this month and I hope that there are at least 2 follies when I do try.  I want more chances, my RE says that's just allowing more chances for multiples...I want all the chances I can get!
Sometimes, I wonder if it is worth it to put myself through this since I am doing this alone.  It is so nice to read about all of you with your partners for support and doing this together.  I could never find that right person and just ask to be allowed to have this.  I have high doubts it will ever happen...I just wish I had not been so careful in the past.
Since I am very new at this and extremely green...any info would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Questions...please and thanks!

  • I don't have answers for you I just want to support you on doing this alone. Yes most of us have partners now but I had my first alone. I kicked her bio dad to the curb when I was pregnant. I won't lie, it is challenging but the reward of having a child is so worth it. If you have someone you are close with, a family member or friend, try and involve them in the process.
You are ten times better off than I was at 21 so I know you can do it if I did.

As for the CoQ10 I believe @Samuelismomma started taking that before her BFP so maybe she can give you some answers about that.

Progesterone won't hurt anything so if you want to be on it push your RE to get you on it starting right after you O.

    All welcome

  • Hi @thirtyninetoforty‌ - first off, I want to say I totally admire you. I contemplated doing it solo in my mid 30s but chickened out. I met my H in my late 30s and was married at 39. My numbers aren't as good as yours and have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
Have you considered acupuncture? I was told that I have poor egg quality and we are focusing on cleansing my system.
There is a natural fertility website
that gives you advice on an optimal fertility diet and they also sell herbal supplements. I just finished the 30 day cleanse. Also, do you temp? I just started but I've learned more on Fertility Friend in one month than everything else I've read.

  • @thirtyninetoforty‌, add me to your fan club--I think it's awesome that you've identified what you want and are going for it!

I believe the "better" (more easily accessible) form of COQ10 is Ubiquinol. It is, sadly, a bit more expensive and hard to find (less ubiquitous-hah), but they have it at Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, and other places, I'm sure.

I'm taking it and a whole bunch of other supplements I can tell you about if you're curious, and I think either they or the acupuncture (seconding @Lesliem0901‌ in recommending it) are helping. My chart is looking a lot better (less spiky and erratic) than it has in the past.

As far as your numbers go, they look good. I think the reserve level hormone you mention might be estradiol (E2)? You might discuss your FSH with your Dr. I believe low FSH can be problematic, too (although I'm sure he/she would have mentioned it if it were too low...)

Definitely agree about the temping/charting, if you're not already!

Best of luck to you--we're all rooting for you!

    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!
  • It sounds like your test are still good. I think my FSH this cycle was 8.2 and my AMH is 1.9. I think those test help determine egg supply. From my understanding there is no real test to determine egg quality. I do take 200mg of ubiquinol daily because it can't hurt and I order mine from amazon. My Dr gives me progesterone on medicated cycles because he says it can't hurt. He said at my age low progesterone does seem to be a problem in a lot of women so why not. Also because I do have a history of trisomy babies we do try to get more that 1 egg in hopes there will be a good one. I admire you for doing this on your own and I wish you all the luck in the world. These boards are an awesome place to come for support through this difficult process. Good luck!
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • No advice but wanted to say your amazing to go after your dream!! You can do this. Yes it will have it's challenges but a friend of mine used DS because she felt that she would never find someone and she has a beautiful 8 yr old now. Do you have family members or close friends that could help you get through this journey with you?

Wishing you all the best on this upcoming cycle!!!

More power to you in going after what you want in life! Do you have family and friends that know you're going through the IUI's?  It's nice to have that cheering squad sometimes (besides us, that is :) )

Like pp stated it's hard to determine egg quality, most of the fertility panels really just assess your potential response to fertility treatments. IVF can give some additional info about egg quality.

Progesterone can't hurt, but it is kind of gross to deal with. When I was doing IUI's, progesterone was part of the protocal from my RE so I say why not try it?

    @hooligans4, @Lesliem0901, @Davie813, @URMySunshine77, @Radiantly, @Pintobean39, @BeckyP005, @Sidey...THANK YOU all for such encouragement!  I appreciate all the info given to me.
I have been temping on FF and have a pretty good temp rhythm.
Yes, E2 was the test!  My RE said the 1.5 was fine and I had also read a really low number could mean something but it depends on something else which escapes me at this point.
I have shared with one sister and two friends but I can't share to the extent I would like too which is why I turn to all of you!
When I see my RE on Friday, I am def going to tell him I want Progesterone this time around.
I have seen how expensive the better form of CoQ10 is but I am going to have it to start after what I have is done.
Again, thank you all so much!  I stumbled across this site when researching my options a year ago and I am so glad that I did!  I don't even know how I came across the TTC >35 part and I haven't even looked at any of the others and know some of you are on different ones but I just feel so comfortable here!
Wishing you all the best!!  Thank you :)

  • Hi Hun! Good luck and go for it...this time around...I did b complex, vitamin c 1000 mg , coq10 400 mg a day you can take 600 but it's expensive. Did this and the day after O I started progesterone, 200mg compound twice a day via suppositories. I was put on all the vitamins in Albania ..they strongly believe in them in Europe..( especially vitamin c...helps eggs on cellular level is their belief) got pregnant both times there! Lol...

  • So sorry ladies that I had dropped off for a couple of weeks.  I get frustrated.  I had a cyst for my June cycle so I had to go back on Provera and I should be getting dear AF in the next couple of days.  It is frustrating and this cycle I'm upping my Clomid mg and days I take it (7 days) plus my RE upped my steroid to try and get the Clomid to work.  I can't believe the year is half over already and only had one fair try.  I know all of you have been at this for some time and I feel bad complaining about it when I only started this year :(

@URMySunshine77...I certainly hope so!  If all goes well (FX!!!), I should have an IUI in about three weeks.  Thanks for asking :)

    @C_Girlie & @Davie813...Thank you for the support :)

@Samuelismomma...Great information.  I started 600 of the CoQ10 (200 morning, afternoon and bedtime), I am on the B Complex but am curious about the Vitamin C???  Also, I've always been borderline anemic but I am taking prenatals so I assume I should be OK in that area.  this time, I will be on progesterone as I have already told my RE we will be doing this!  Thank you :)

ALL of the ladies of this board are GREAT and I am so glad you all are always here :)
