PUPPP rash? Itchy stretch marks and spreading!

I think I might be developing a PUPPP rash after using the good ole Google search.  I am going to the doctor tomorrow for regular checkup so I will ask/confirm.

Anyone else have this? Basically the stretch marks on my tummy have been red, inflamed, and filled with itchy bumps. Today the bumps started spreading down my legs. I guess it usually only happens with FTM around the third trimester and resolves after birth.

Some ladies get so itchy and irritated that doctors sometimes induce early (after 36 weeks). Keeping my fingers crossed that doesn't happen!

  • Hopefully it's not. It's normal for stretch marks to itch. I used a ton of the palmers oil my 1st pregnancy. Good luck!

I had PUPPs with my first pregnancy, diagnosed around 36 weeks. My OB had me use calamine lotion which took the edge off. Luckily I had my son about a week later so I didn't have to deal with the itching for long. Good luck, I hope you find some relief.
  • UPDATE: Dr. is pretty sure it's PUPPs. Especially since I now have a rash down my arms and legs. GAHH so itchy! She sort of gasped when she saw my stretch marks all inflamed and filled with red  bumps. She hesitated to even do the fetal heart monitor cause my skin looks so bad. :-(

Anyways, I'll be trying some over the counter anti itch creams before having her prescribe any steriod creams. I hope everyone else can avoid this and that I won't get much worse.

  • I'm sorry :(. I had PUPPS with my first pregnancy and am hoping I'm spared this time. Mine developed a couple weeks before I delivered, just on my lower belly, and was uncomfortable but not horrid... Ice packs gave me the most relief out of anything else. But then it flared up worse after delivery, spreading to my lower legs and arms. Yes, it can flare up even worse before it goes away completely. Mine resolved about 2 weeks post partum, but that first week in particular was hell. Nothing helped, I couldn't sleep, was literally itching myself to the point of bleeding, and got to the point where sleep deprivation was making me hallucinate. Not a great way to spend the beginning of my son's life, let me tell you. I sincerely hope yours doesn't come to that!!!

OMG! My doctor just told me that I have this. :( The insane itching started a few days ago, and I someone assumed it was just bug bites that had gotten out of control. I had never heard of PUPPPs before. For some reason for me, this is worse than morning sickness. The idea of not having 100% itch relief is maddening! Thanks ladies for the tip of using an ice pack and tight clothes! I think leggings will be uniform from here until the end of pregnancy.

Oops! Sorry ladies, I just realized this is the August 2014 board. For some reason, I thought this was July. (I'm due 7/4). Thanks again for the dialogue and tip.
  • So my rash started on my belly at 35 weeks and now over a week later it's on my arms, my thighs, my butt cheeks, legs, hands, and anywhere else you can think of!! It is absolutely horribly uncomfortable and is even worse at night.  I had to cut my nails real short to stop myself from itching until I bleed! I've been applying Benadryl cream all over my body and that's the only thing that works, that and cold showers (but I hate cold showers!!!).  Two showers a day and Benadryl all over right after seem to be keeping me sane for now.  Can't wait for this baby to be out, it's been a tough 9 months!!

p.s. my ob prescribed a cortisone cream, used it a couple of times but it did nothing to help the itching!!
