Baby car travels

Ok need some advice/ suggestions on two things car related:

1- have you taken a cab with your LO? Do you need to bring the car seat base or can I secure the car seat without it? I'm not going far- not that really matters

2- right now we have two car seat bases. Works out great since I do daycare drop off and DH does pick up. What should we do once LO isn't using the infant seat anymore? Do I need two car seats? Can I easily take the car seat out everyday and leave it at DC? ( it would be safe- small at home DC)
Thoughts?

2 - It's really a matter of personal preference. I'm a SAHM so we only have one, but I know a lot of working mamas on here do have two for the reason you described. They are kind of a pain to install if you'd need to do it every single day. I'd suggest getting a nicer one for the primary vehicle and a less expensive one for the second. https://www.lucieslist.com/best-convertible-car-seats/ has reviews of the best seats at every price point.

I'm glad to know I don't need the base- I'll read my manual on installing with just a seat belt.

Thanks @tisunge602‌ for posting the link. I need weigh the options and consider price, life span and convenience. I like the idea of maybe getting a less expensive one for my car and a higher quality for DH, any long trips we take his car.
