January 2013 Moms

So.. Gross.... This week on nasty things my child has put in his mouth..

Thoren ate a dead fly. Like.. 70% of it was ingested. I dug as much as i could out, while he was fighting me, but the damage was done. I may or may not have almost completely lost my cool and had to fight the urge to puke.

Please tell me i am not the only one that has had something gross like this happen?

Also, how worried would you be? Ugh...

  • C puts rocks, sticks, and leaves in his mouth every time we are outisdie. So far he hasn't swallowed any. Tonight he threw some of his food on the floor. He ate it after I put him down (I was going to get towel to clean it up). No bugs yet but I'm sure it will happen.

  • Ya. I pull mysterious things out of DD's mouth more than I care to admit. I don't know what's worse, seeing her chewing on something and not finding anything or finding something and not knowing what you found...

  • M loves to chew on my flip flops, which we do not allow.  She also tried to chew on a guest's very dirty tennis shoes, which I thought was grosser.  Also chewed on her keys, and regularly chews on my keys and phone.  She puts lots of things outside in her mouth--including dirt, rocks, sand, sticks, and wood chips.  She puts toys in her mouth at public indoor play areas where kids of all ages are also mouthing things.  She has eaten catfood, lots of floor human food, and crumbs of random things.

This weekend, we were at this apartment and the pool was closed for treatment of some type.  There were some puddles that looked like they had come from the pool that we let the baby splash in while we waited for our friend. There were ducks around and clearly fertilizer had also drained into the puddles. Okay, we'll rinse her off...but then she got on her hands and knees and started lapping up the water.  We don't think she got any...but yuck!!
  • Ds had a stink bug in his mouth. Luckily I got it out before he ate any of it. Gross!

  • No bugs yet, he's chewed on shoes, cell phones, keys, food off the floor (usually from the meal that he just finished eating...I'm not going to lie and say he hasn't found a few goldfish that were around his toys for several days). Sticks, grass, rocks, etc.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

  • DD tries to eat everything too. Drives me crazy. And like a PP said, for everything I catch, I wonder what I've missed. I caught her with dog food in her mouth the other day, grabbed it out and told her that was for the dog only... But I know she'll try again. She doesn't so much try sticks and leaves, but yes to rocks. And also household things... The covers that go over/in the sockets... If we take one out to plug something in, she's trying her best to get it. All crayons and all pens/pencils. And anything she finds on the floor. I feel like we sweep everyday and she still finds things.

  • Norah has licked the bottom of her flip flop. Also, she licked her finger which had wet mud on it from a rain storm. You are not alone.

DS may have eaten a few pieces of cat litter once, I'm not sure though. Either way, mom fail.

  • I think every single one of these is on DD's list, except maybe the cat litter, LOL (ok, that's really disgusting). As long as it's not an overtly toxic substance, I figure it's all contributing to a healthy immune system :).

  • Cat litter, cat food and even cat poo. We were outside gathering up Christmas lights, keepping a really good eye on him, next thing i know there is dried cat poo heading right to his mouth!!  Clean out mouth, plenty of water, call it a day!!!!!!!!
  • DS got into his diaper pail a few months ago and opened a poop diaper and proceeded to smear it on the carpet in the hallway. He decided to take a little taste but came to me to get it off his tongue. Once I saw what happened I cleaned him, the carpet and brushed his teeth. I laughed it off thinking it will be a fun story to tell him when he's older. My husband on the other hand flipped out, thought we should take him to the ER and vowed that we will never have anymore kids. He is just a lil dramatic. I wouldn't worry about the fly. It's gross but in some countries they eat bugs. Gross!!!

  • DS ate a dead, dried up, lady bug the other day. I pulled a wing out of his mouth, how gross! He was chewing on his shoe last night on our way home from the park. Didn't know it till we got home and went to get him out of his car seat.
