Ovulation pain?

I think I may have ovulated today (see my chart for a dip), and am having strange pains. I was on an IUD for almost a year, and had many complications from it, so I am hoping this being my 2nd cycle without an IUD in place, I am actually ovulating. So the pain I am having feels like it's coming from my left ovary area, and it is like a dulling pain and throbs a little. It has been lasting for about 20 minutes though, so not sure this is normal? Any ideas? And-- do you think I ovulated according to my chart, or am I incorrect? I haven't charted for over 3 years, so I don't remember everything. ***Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot, but I never had ovulation pain in the past, so it's a new experience for me. TIA!

I have never had ovulation but some people do.  There is really no way to tell until after the fact if it is O pain or just random discomfort.  Just enter it into FF and you will have to wait and see if it correlates with your chart and if it happens consistently around ovulation.

  • It's possible that you're ovulating, but you can only know that after three or more sustained high temps.  With temping, you can only tell for sure days after the fact.  For what it's worth, I've often had what I always thought were ovulation pains, but once I started charting/temping it turns out I sometimes had those pains up to a few days before, during, or even a few days after I actually ovulated.  My temps as well as OPK tests confirmed that the day I ovulated wasn't always the exact day I felt pain.

So while the pain might be a good sign you're ovulating, you won't know for sure until you keep temping and see those temps stay up.  Good luck!

    All ALers welcome!

  • I don't know how to temp, chart, etc. I guess I should look into it as I've been extremely worried about not conceiving.

However, I thought I might be one of those people that can feel ovulation as I always thought it was weird that two weeks after my cycle I'd have what felt like mild period cramps. Then I read that a small percentage of women can actually feel ovulation.

I have them, and for me, they were twinges (almost like a quick pinch), but like a PP, sometimes they were just before I ovulated and sometimes they didn't feel from a particular side, just in the middle.

  • I have been hyper aware of all twinges, etc. since TTC. I do think I can feel know when my ovaries are up to something, but I wouldn't be able to say for sure if it was ovulation. Could be all in my head, too. I wouldn't read too much into it or worry, unless it turns into a chronic thing. Your body will do what it does and you might just be paying more attention now.

  • Okay, great. Thank you for all the advice/info, ladies.
I will just wait and see what happens with the rest of this cycle.
Like I said-- never had O pain before, so it's completely new to me.

    Thanks again!

I'm a little late here, but agree that o pains aren't an indicator of much. I got what certainly felt like them from 3-5 dpo this month (and I'm pretty sure, from temping/charting/opks, that my O-date is right.) Go figure....

    Good luck this cycle!

(I'm on my phone, so I can't see your chart.)
