Charlies and Country Save

I always mix up these detergents.  Here are my rapid fire questions....  Which one is more commonly used by people on this board?  Which one do you have to use on all your laundry and why is that?  If I have hard water I can use the Charlies booster.  If I use Country Save and have hard water would I have to use Calgon since it isn't specially formulated for hard water?  And do any of you specifically love one and why?

Re: Charlies and Country Save

  • I never used Charlie's. Country save worked on the diapers when she was little and EBF but stopped working around 8-10 months.

    I happily use Nellies.

  • I use charlies and the booster. Charlies does say to only use their booster if you're using their detergent, but I have no idea why and if that's a real issue or not. You are supposed to use charlies on all your laundry. The reason that they give for that is that other detergents leave some residue on your clothes and machine. Charlies will get used up cleaning that residue instead of the dirt on your clothes.

  • I use Country Save - only on our diapers, and I have no complaints about it's performance or the price. But I'm still in the EBF poop stage, so my opinion on it may change in 5 months when we start solid food ...

  • I used Country Save when we lived
In the US (months 1-4). We did not have particularly hard water.

At 19 months we took a trip back home and I used the same box of
Country Save that I left behind and had no issues. I then took it along for the next couple of weeks to visit both sets of grandparents. The only issue I had was that the bamboo terry insert on a Nikki's aio didn't quite get clean in softish water, but really there are so many variables. It could have been the machine.

We used Country Save on all our laundry. For the price, why not? And it's generally recommended for clean-rinsing detergents to use them on all your laundry, so that another detergent is not building up in your machine and then getting deposited on your diapers.

You might need to add Calgon if you have hard water. Depends how hard and how much detergent you need and whether it rinses away cleanly. Maybe try it first without. Then if you need it, it's an easy fix.
