NBR: to keep or to toss?

This is kind of a silly question.

I'm cleaning out and reorganizing our linen closet. Found a queen-size top sheet the fitted sheet for which we threw away because a hole was torn in it.

Is there anything you can do with JUST a top sheet? Any reason why I should keep it? I don't want to be wasteful, but I just don't know what I would do with it. :)

  • @MRSclarke08‌ Well I definitely know where it's going to go until I decide what to do with it - our camping gear bin! Voila!

    Thank you! 8->

    We use top sheets for all kinds of things, picnics included!  DH made a fort out of one for DD a while back and she loved it!  Stick it away with blankets and you will find a use for it.

    ETA: more ideas!  A drop cloth for painting/art projects later on.  That was the BEST reason I had for keeping all the top sheets when we went from a queen to a king.  Saves the carpet and I don't have to buy drop cloths for when we paint the nursery!

  • Forts!  and I use sheets to cover my plants.
  • I use old sheets for art projects! I lay it down on the floor so DD can go to town with her paint and markers and I don't have to fear for our hardwood floors

  • For the beach or for a painting drop cloth.

    Extra fabric for sewing projects, if you're into that.  I ended up using an old sheet that had been serving as a beach blanket when I made DD's crib skirt - the skirt part is pretty fabric that matches the nursery, but the platform part of it that sits under the mattress is part of an old sheet.

  • We use our random sheets as a dropcloth for painting projects, etc. I usually fold them up and put them in a crate in the garage.

    A friend of mine who is obsessed with baby wearing has now added me to 5 private baby wearing facebook groups within the past 3 days, and I've now learned that you can use things such as tablecloths to create your own wraps for wearing a baby. Baby wearing is all I see in my news feed anymore!! lol

    Anyway, if you plan on baby wearing, that might be a great use for a DIY moby or ring sling. :)

  • I would keep it around to use for fort building.

    I used a favorite sheet to make pillow covers for the couch when we upsized our bed. If you do any sewing (or know someone who does) you get a lot of fabric from a queen sized sheet.

    I'd be a little wary of using it as a drop cloth for painting. I would think if you had a particularly large splatter or spill it would soak through and still get on the floor. (And I'm a klutz, so I almost always have large spills.)

    Yeah, I know that feeling.  We usually use the sheet as a drop cloth under the painting site, but I put some cardboard or something extra down in the area where the actual can of paint is stored.  Let's just say that I can no longer be trusted to pour my own paint out of the can . . .

  • I use them as drop-cloths for painting, like PPs said, or to cover the couch if someone needs to sleep on it, just to protect the upholstery!  Also to cover things like furniture I'm storing in the basement.
