SAHM check in

Happy Monday mommas!

How are you/how was the weekend?

Tell me something about yourself...anything at all you'd like to share.

What are your plans for returning to work in the future? (If you plan to return) What actions are you taking to keep your resume attractive to future employers?

Re: SAHM check in

  • We had a nice weekend. It's been SO hot here, so we spent a lot of time swimming and it was also DS's first T-ball game on Saturday.

About me: I love the beach. We're going to Hawaii in July and I cannot wait!

I'll probably go to work when the kiddos are in school full time. In the mean time I want to finish up classes to get my AA degree. I'm only about 7 classes away from finishing.

  • We had a good weekend. Sadie went to her first bday party & we met another SAH mom there with an 8 month old girl. They were so cute playing together! I'm meeting them for the babies library time tomorrow...hopefully this is the start of a sahm friendship! They only live about 2 miles from us.

About me: I'm a huge crafter (anything except sewing) & love to create things for less. (Read: suck it PBK, I'll make my own). I also love to garden despite the protest by my allergies. And I love cooking, but not baking. I like to skim a few recipes for ideas then create my own version of things.

Working in the future is a debate right now. I wouldn't return to a traditional ft job until all kids are in school full time. What I would love is to get a home based business up by that time.
I plan to take some photography classes & want to see if that is an option. I could also see myself using my crafty side as income, renting booth spaces at fairs & maybe starting a repurposed furniture website. Who knows.
In the meantime I plan to finish my associates & may go for my bachelors in marketing & business management.
  • It was a nice weekend. LO willingly ate some solids which is pretty major for us, and thanks to his meds he hasn't vomited in 3 days (knock on wood). He has been sleeping a lot so I hope that he is growing and putting on weight. We tried our hand at fingerpainting which he wasn't that interested in yet but he did try to eat some paint and we eventually did get a picture out of it. I am going to frame it.

Something you don't know about me is that I am not very crafty but sometimes I try to be. I made some body butter for me and LO and some coffee-sugar scrub for just me yesterday and I was surprised that it turned out pretty nice.

I am going back into the classroom in mid-late August. I am excited about it but also nervous! A year seemed like a long time to SAH in the beginning and now it is almost over and I will have to be away from my LO! I am trying to savor these last months as much as I can.

  • My weekend was pretty good.  DH was working, as usual.  Saturday we spent the day up at the campground with MILs.  Sunday we went to church with my parents and out to lunch, and then came home and just hung out at home.  It was a nice weekend!

Something about me is that I'm obsessed with Disney.  A lot of you may have already known that. :)  I love going to Walt Disney World, I'd go there on vacation for every vacation if I could.  I have lots of little Disney things all throughout my house.

As for working, I really have no plans to go back to work.  Since DH and I are buying the restaurant he works at, I'm sure I'll be working there from time to time, but other than that I don't plan on going back.

  • Weekend was busy. We closed on our new place Friday, and we are busy setting up contractors to do the work we want to do over the next 10 days before we move in.
We spent many hours at Lowe's, picking up faucets, ceiling fans, etc. It's a pain but I'm excited to see how it turns out. Now I need to get started packing!

Like @Katies7, I love to bake. My favorite is probably making cupcakes. I actually had a cake pop business for a little while before baby #2 came. But now it's just too difficult. I prefer making cupcakes anyway, to be honest. I never make anything out of a box… I also live for sweets so these two go hand in hand. :)

Part of me would love to return to work. But I don't plan to do so for another two years. We don't have any family nearby, so I would have to hire full-time help or daycare. So I want to wait till they're both in school.
I was doing some freelance TV writing on the side, but my contact for that no longer needs me. If I can find something like that I would continue to do it.

@janneann1127‌ what work are you getting done to the new place?

We are having several of the ceilings scraped and painted (they are popcorn and have asbestos.) we are having sliding screen doors put in, ceiling fans installed or updated in all the bedrooms, replacing/updating sink and shower fixtures in all 3 bathrooms, and painting over some 70's style faux wood walls in the playroom. Oh and replacing some window screens & the hanging chandelier over the stairs. A lot of small things that are costing too much money. :-)
When do you move into your new place?
  • My weekend was great. DH had Friday off for a PA day so we had a long weekend. We went to the zoo and it was such a nice family outing.

Something about me...I also love anything artsy. Baking, drawing, sewing, all crafts. I actually have my bachelor degree in interior design, but I went in to teaching instead. Now I just see it as a hobby.

I go back to work in September. I can technically take four years off of work (one year paid) and still have my position, but we can not afford it. I would love to stay home with DS longer. Instead, he is off to daycare at the end of the summer and I am back in the classroom. I will now be the computer teacher though (which is a much easier gig).

I know exactly what you mean. The small stuff adds up so fast. We've probably spent over a grand in light fixtures, bulbs, outlets, etc. We will, hopefully, move in this coming weekend. Fingers crossed. And you?

Oh good! We will start moving this weekend as well, but the big stuff we
are moving next Monday. :) good luck!!!
  • Hi ladies,

we had a fun weekend. Local fair, park, time at home and outlet mall too (found a 3 year old sized winter jacket, Columbia, reg $180 for $20. Score!).

I plan on going back to work when LO is in school.

Something random about me - I've lived and worked with DH in 4 continents. We both enjoy traveling

Also, reading all the posts about pinterest and baking make me want to create something and bake!

Past 2 weeks I've gone to the local library song and story time. Planning on joining a baby class too. Still want to meet other local SAHM. Found this article about mums and friendships.

  • Survived- I mean enjoyed a 10 day long road trip with my family. My sister was the most annoying person in the car. She won't be invited on anymore vacations.

I do plan on going back to work when the kids are in school but I doubt I'll return to teaching. I'll figure out what to do when the time comes.

  • Drove ALONE with both boys 5 hours each way to visit with my parents. They did great! Had a nice visit and did lots if swimming and boating at the lake.

About me: I'm a couch potato in my (little) spare time these days. I wish I could get into crafting and reading again but for now, TV is the BEST EVER. But I'm trying to get better.

I probably will be PT forever. DH is a deputy sheriff and has unpredictable hours and lots of call outs for the special teams he is on. With no family nearby it's hard to work a consistent schedule and I don't want to pay day care when DH is home 3 days a week a lot anyway.

Rock and a hard place over here.

I was also a teacher and am debating to go back to teaching or to start a different career. I want another child and to go back to work after they start school so this decision doesn't need to be made anytime soon.

@BelhurstBride‌ if it's not too personal and you don't mind sharing why do you doubt you will teach again?
  • I've already been out of the field for 4 years. So much has changed and the paperwork- particularly for special educators- is outrageous. And it was bad before I left. I wasn't in it for the paperwork and I never wanted a job that required me to bring bagfulls of work home. Not with children in the house.

I've considered something federal. Primarily for a pension.
