12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

Re: TTC Check-In

  • I am just waiting for my LH surge.  After a certain point I start to get nervous that I won't be ovulating or that I somehow managed to miss it and I am at/getting to this point.

QOTW:  I finished my HA apprentice online course and I just have to take the online and state licensing exams.

    10 medicated IUI's (3 with injectables).
IUI #1 (medicated) Jan. 2013-BFP!!!!- Beta's didn't double, MTX shot for possible ectopic.
    8 IUI's between April 13-April 14 = BFN
IUI #10 and final before IVF, injectables May 2014- BFP!!!!  TWINS!!!!

7 week ultrasound showed 2 wonderful heartbeats!
8 weeks to the ER with vaginal bleeding while on vacations!  Diagnosed SubChorionic Hemorrhage.  Babies are both great.
9 week ultrasound showed both babies are still great.
  • My wife has an appointment Friday that will determine if we can do reciprocal IVF close to home with our preferred fertility doc the way we originally intended. We were despairing a bit because it didn't seem possible but we got a random call from our dr (who had already referred us to another fertility dr about six weeks ago though we have not met with him because he's so hard to get an appointment with) who came up with a new idea. So, Friday's appointment will let us know what's next. I know this is vague, but the issue is so complicated it's not worth going into. I'm crossing my fingers.

Best of luck to everyone else who's trying!
  • Greetings, friends!

I'm on day 4 of Follistim.  I take another dose tonight, and another tomorrow, and then I get the vag scan on Wednesday.  I imagine they'll have me stim for a few more days and then check again over the weekend, and I'll probably get my IUI on Monday or Tuesday next week.

We had to pick a new donor.  To be honest, I'm not very excited about him.  He's very good looking and he's intelligent but... he's kind of simple.  I mean, when asked what makes him happy his response was "Food."  His medical history is good and he seems like a wonderful guy (and he looks like a New Kid which C loves) but... I dunno, maybe it was just his interview.  I'm going to encourage C to keep checking profiles since we have 3 months on the subscription so we can pick a new donor if this cycle doesn't work.

So there you have it.  This is my Hail Mary cycle - last one until I joyfully toss in the towel and let C give it a go for a while.  I thought I'd be sadder about letting go but I'm actually just relieved.  It's such a tremendous pain being a slave to my cycle.  Having to drive up early in the morning for appointments, taking drugs, having speculums shoved in my vagina, waiting anxiously, testing, testing, testing only to get BFNs... And then watching my savings dwindle all for an empty uterus.  It's way too much.  At this point I don't give one hot crap about a biological connection to my kid.  If C's the carrier and she manages to get knocked up without issue, I will be blissfully happy.  At least I tried.  That's about all I can do.  I might revisit TTC after C gets knocked up.  I have a gut feeling that this will be much easier for her than it is for me.

  • Oops, forgot the GTKY and it won't let me edit.

What have I accomplished in the last 2 weeks?  Um... honestly, not much lol... I've managed to stay classy and not explode on my friend's homophobic fiancé.  Long story but...

The gist of it: C's best friend of 20 years (mine of 10) said we couldn't be in her wedding party (which we had been discussing for *years*) because we're not Lutheran.  I talked to other Lutherans and learned that this is, in fact, BS.  Friend is basically trying to cover for her fiancé because he doesn't want us filthy homosexuals tainting his wedding day.

Among other things, he's steamrolling her life and it's making me absolutely insane.  There are so many terrible things I want to say and do but so far I've kept it together.

It's going to be a long summer for me.

  • Day 13 of our 2WW... almost there!! We tested like thursday and it was bfn, but that was super early.

The last 2 weeks we accomplished:  L-getting and keeping poison ivy, M- hurting her knee and subsequently her quad muscle.  both- broke the new hot tub filter, then got both the hot tub & pool running.

  • Yesterday was our 5 day embryo transfer. The embryologist came in and showed us a picture of the blastocyst they were going to use and said with that embryo we had a good chance of becoming pregnant. She also said they had another good looking blastocyst and showed us the picture. I think she figured we would only want to do one but of course we wanted both!

While they prepared the room and embryos the nurse brought me cups of water so I would have a full bladder for the transfer. So I started drinking the water and maybe I started too soon or they were just taking longer the expected but I felt like I was going to explode! The nurse let me go to the bathroom but I was only allowed to go a tiny bit. Felt a little better. About 15 minutes later I was going to explode again. This time I'm doing the peepee dance around the room and L is cracking up. Once again the nurse let me go but not all the way.

Finally it was time for me to go for the transfer. In all the videos L had watched the doctors always let the spouse in the room for the transfer but L wasn't allowed to go back with me. She was really sad and I felt really bad. I was only gone about 10 minutes and everything went great! I will now take my test on June 20th!

My RE said that we had 4 remaining embryos that they were going to monitor and let us know today how many we would be able to freeze. I got the call today from the lab and unfortunately they aren't able to freeze any and they will be discarded. I'm a little sad but we are just going to keep our fingers crossed that on the 20th we will get a BFP!

QOTW: I can't really think of anything exciting that I've accomplished in the last few weeks. My job is ending in a few weeks so I actually got my resume together and had a few interviews. I'm busy everyday applying to positions and making follow up phone calls. Usually I would be a big procrastinator but L (the budget queen) will be very upset if I don't find a new position soon :)

  • CD 1 for me today. I feel like I donated blood. I went for my IVF bw and they took 12 vials total. I wasn't expecting that. So, first step is done.

Our general plan is as follows: I will start BCPs tomorrow. June 19th we go for mock transfer, uterus measurement and IVF teaching. June 30 I go for bw and u/s and then July 4 I start stimming. They are looking at retreival the week of July 14th. The problem is, I cannot make it to the office on July 11th. So, the nurse is asking my RE if this will work. If it doesn't, we will push it all back a week or more. I'm hoping that we can make it work and I can just go for monitoring the day before and after.

QOTW: Probably one of my biggest accomplishments has been tidying up our mudroom. My SIL overhauled it for us, but then we let it get cluttered again. It is kind of our catch all room. Anyway, it is picked up and looks much better now.

  • CD 15 and waiting for the little smiley face to show up on my OPK.  I’m nervous and excited about the first IUI.    The RE mentioned that as soon as I see the smiley face I could come in that day, next day, or day after.  Any advice on which would be the best day?  Also, did you continue to chart after the IUI?  From lurking on the posts, it seems like the best way to get through the TWW is to try to keep yourself busy, and your mind off POAS.  I feel that if I'm charting it will be impossible to NOT think about it.  Sending happy thoughts to everyone!

QOTW: what have you accomplished in the past two weeks?  It’s still a work in progress, but we are building a headboard for our bed.  We found these shutters at an antique store.  Sanded, primed and are currently painting them.  I’m hoping we can finish painting them this week and put them together this weekend.  We shall see!

Nothing going on here. Waiting until next month for our first IUI, and the wait is killing me!!!!!
I wish we could start this month, because I should see my LH surge on Sunday, but our vials need to be at the clinic for 2-3 weeks before we can do an insemination. Is that normal for the clinics to hold the vials for a while?

What have I accomplished in the last 2 weeks.... I lost a pound this week. Haha

Plus I figured out how to make this seafood salad that I would normally buy at the store. But it’s super expensive to buy here, and not weight watchers friendly, so I did my own up, and it tastes awesome!
