Congested Nose

I have had a terribly congested nose for the last month. I read that it is a symptom. If anybody else has had this problem, how do you deal with it? I am using saline spray to loosen things up enough to blow my nose.

If it's allergies, you can take Claritin, Zyrtec, or Benadryl, just not the D versions. I've taken Claritin through the entire pregnancy (with OB blessing), but mine is definitely allergies, not baby related.

I have eucalyptus oil! I'm going to try that right now. Thank you.

The saline spray and showers are not working. :(

  • Ask your OB about what allergy and cold medications they re okay with you taking. I didn't end up taking anything for my pregnancy rhinitis but I know I was suggested a few things by the doc.

  • I use saline spray and blow my nose about 10 times a day. Nothing else helps.
  • I used a neti pot (life saver) and nasal strips (breathe right strips) at night.  During my second pregnancy I talked to my OBGYN and pharmacist about allergy meds and which were safe.  If it gets to the point where it's affecting your health with lack of sleep due to your symptoms, it's worth looking into the medications that are safe and can help.  Good luck!
  • I take sudafed or tylenol sinus.  This is my third pregnancy and the first time I've dealt with this.

  • I have cheat congestion and feel like I can't breathe half the time and I'm 7 weeks pregnant. My first ob/gyn appt is this thurs so hoping she suggests something for relief! I also have allergies so I'm thinking that's part of it too.
  • I also use apple cider vinegar, 1T ACV, 1T honey and hot water. Mix it up and drink it down. It always clears me up.

I think I am going to text one of the attorneys I work with because he swears by apple cider vinegar.

My OB suggested Benadryl to me. I can't use that in the morning though, because it makes me drowsy. I have been using saline spray. I'll let you know how the apple cider vinegar goes though!

  • I had a stuffy nose to the point where I couldn't breathe/sleep at night for about a week. The other suggestions are great but I decided to use all the natural/safe approaches I could at once so I used saline drops several times daily and put a humidifer with menthol in the bedroom and used nasal strips and each night about 30 mins before bed I took a couple of shots of hot sauce to clear out. It helped and after I got more rest, mine improved.
