Cloth Diapering

6 washes?

So I know it's generally accepted that when prepping natural fibers to wash six times. But what exactly does that mean? Six full wash cycles with rinse, wash, rinse, rinse then dry. Or would that count as more than one wash? I have three new inserts, and don't want to put them with my regular laundry as my detergent is not cd safe, and don't want to add in woth my regular stash too soon. How soon can I start prepping natural fibers with the rest of my dispers? Yes, I am still trying to figure out the basics.

  • I would not do the extra rinses like you were washing dirty diapers, especially the pre rinse. The first couple washes get enough of the oils off that you can wash them with your other diapers. Personally I would use them after 3 or 4 washes, more that than is just to make sure you have maximum absorbency, but they are useable before that.

  • Really, I'd just put them in with my CD laundry. It's three inserts, not three dozen.

  • @SecretAgentKate‌ my inserts are applecheeks bamboo insets. I've boiled prefolds that are all cotton but didn't think about other fabrics. Can I boil all natural fibers as long as there are no snaps or covers?

  • Yeah, I missed the fact there are only three. Either book or just wash them with everything else.

  • I have never washed any natural fiber diapers more than once before using them.  but I agree with ITK to just include them with your other cd laundry
