No service dog at school?

In case the link doesn't work- A little boy in Arkansa has a trained service dog to alert him to seizures. The school initially told the parents that the dog wasn't allowed because "they could provide the same services as the dog". They relented but are requiring the parents pay $145 for a handler to attend with the dog.

Anyone else feel like this is violating the ADA?

The article doesn't say explicitly say that is the case but it could be interpreted that way. The school states that it's within it's right to make sure the animal is trained. That being said, these animals are trained for 2-3 years before they even make it to the person they are working with.

What really get's me is that the school tried to claim they could provide the same services. The dog is a seizure alert service animal. Can the school really provide an aid that would do that?

@Studyinpink Schools like this are the reason I've decided to go right back to school for midwifery instead of using my education degree. Shit like this is fairly normal, at least in my area, and I don't deal well with that much stupid.
