Panties

Perhaps a dumb question, but...

As I am an avid thong wearer, when is it safe to return to them after a vaginal delivery? I had second degree tearing and stitches. I'm 4w1d PP, and I feel fine down there, though I do still have some residual bleeding/spotting.

This is my 3rd, but my last baby was almost 10 years ago and I cannot remember what protocol was or if I even asked.

Re: Panties

  • I never wear things but I think I would want to wait for my post partum check up just to get confirmation that things have healed.

  • My instinct is that I've heard of thongs causing UTIs and the reason for no sex for 6 weeks is to reduce risk of infections since the uterus is extra susceptible during those 6 weeks so I would think wait 6 weeks. Completely no medical evidence but just personal thoughts.

  • I'm also 4w3d pp and I wore one yesterday.  I just cut a liner so it would fit the thong.  However, it was only bc I wore white pants yesterday.

  • I miss them so much also! I plan on waiting til my 6 week check up to go back to the panty line free comfort of a thong.
  • @mkquinnwedding I am 5w2d, and I'm still in the grannie panties. Everyone is probably different though.

  • I'm 5 wks and 2 days PP and I've been wearing them all week. My bleeding stopped and I don't have to wear any pads or liners and never gave any thought that they wouldn't be allowed. I had a second degree tear.

  • Since we are talking panties....for all of you C-section mamas, how long did it take you to return to your normal panties? First night home from the hospital I noticed ALL of my panties sat right on my incision so I had to send my husband to the store. I told him to buy the biggest super ugly grannie panties he could find so they sat above the incision. 2 weeks later and Im still wearing them because my normal undies hurt to wear. How long should I expect to wear these huge panties?

2ish weeks? I think. It will depend in the person.

I wore regular panties two days after surgery but I wore boy cut ones prior to surgery. I guess it depends on everyone's tolerance.

I went back to my regular thongs about 1w after my csection. They do sit right on my incision but it doesn't bother me.

  • I've been wearing my regular bikini ones since I was allowed to shower.  They sit just under my incision.  Still wearing my maternity shorts tho.  Can't bear the thought of my regular ones rubbing on my incision.
  • I started wearing my regular panties about 2 weeks PP, I just pull them down a little so they're just below the incision. I was wearing XXXL grannie panties but the skin near my belly button is still really sensitive so the panties hurt more touching me there.

I'd think you could wear a thong once you stop bleeding. I assume you'd want to wear a pad and pads + thongs just seems wrong to me.
